Yes, the denim skirt is back but, no, it's not the same tired, frayed one from middle school days. With the '70s movement in full force, the button-front style has taken the skirt world by storm.
It started when designer Clare Waight Keller of Chloé doubled up on denim on the spring/summer 2015 runway and paired a slouchy denim sweatshirt with a long buttoned denim maxi. Then, Alexa Chung debuted her denim design range for AG Jeans, which included a denim skirt that had all the makings of the perfect little mini—sculpted seam lines, exposed buttons, and a slightly flared silhouette. And more recently, fashion darling Diane Kruger perfected her off-duty style with a midi-length button-front denim skirt that she paired with a burgundy knit, nude frames, a python Jason Wu cross-body, and tan boots.
