10 TikTok Cleaning Hacks That Actually Work
We'll never think about toothpaste the same!
Alright, I finally did it, I downloaded TikTok, but only on my iPad because I heard it is a rabbit hole you can get lost in easily (I did not want to become a zombie, like my husband on Reddit!). I was looking for something to help me break up meetings and emails when I have a few minutes to spare. Well, I certainly found it. And I have to say, I love the TikTok cleaning hacks I have found so far.
I don’t have a calendar for what to clean when and I’m sure there are some dust bunnies somewhere, but I have been inspired to try and accomplish one thing a day—and I’m not taking the dishes. I decided to try one task out of the ordinary each day, and for example, I wiped down my stainless steel appliances today.
Only committing to one task that most likely will take less than 10 minutes feels good. It makes me think I can have a clean, organized home—and these TikTok hacks have helped me get there. Now, I just need to find a Lego cleaning hack. Trust me, I tried color sorting them, a process my son and I both enjoyed, but unfortunately, his projects still result in a crazy mess.
If my goal was to have a perfect house all day every day, I would be screwed. My goal is simply to focus on one item, one day at a time. Here are the 10 best TikTok cleaning hacks that actually worked for me:

1. Use a soap dispenser for kids' toothpaste.
THIS IS A GAME-CHANGER!! For anyone with kids, do this now! I will not claim I have no toothpaste in my sink, but this has greatly reduced the mess I see in my kid's bathroom.

2. Dust your fan blades.
I tried this one—cleaning the blades with an old college shirt. Just make sure you wrap it tight around—it worked for me! The dust was also gross to look at.

3. Shower cleaner.
I have seen so many videos about the S.O.S. brush filled with vinegar and Dawn detergent in the handle. None of my previous cleaning products had handles and my hands always dry out so much, especially when I neglect to wear gloves. This is so easy and great! I love that I don't have to touch the detergent and it keeps my glass doors so nice. I have been doing this once a week and absolutely an easy one.

4. Grout cleaner.
So a lot of people have been using toilet bowl cleaner to clean their grout and I couldn’t resist. I tried it in my bathrooms and walkways. This is definitely not a set it and forget it—there was a lot of scrubbing involved and clean-up took a while. My husband would tell you it made the house stink, however, it definitely cleaned the grout. It is something I will have to repeat!

5. Cleaning the drain.
In order to make your drains smell nice, I put a dishwasher pod and boiling water over the drain, as the video directed. My drain smelt better and my husband noticed too!

6. Cleaning the drain (part two).
So I decided to try another trend: Sprinkling one cup of baking soda around the drain and pour two cups of vinegar over it, followed by white vinegar. After waiting 10 minutes, you pour hot water over it. I was impressed after!

7. Giving my stove grates a bath.
I love having a gas stove, but the amount of mess it creates is unreal. I will fully admit I have not really spent any time caring for the cast iron grates, as they are heavy and don’t fit in my sink, so I do what all sane people would do—and ignore them. Until Tik Tok. I saw people using their bathtubs to soak and clean their grates, so I soaked my grates in the tub with a dishwasher pod. They definitely improved! Next, I'm going to try this one—where you leave them overnight in a plastic bag soaking in ammonia!

8. Baking soda and essential oils.
I have two dogs and two kids, so my rugs/couches are well-loved. I bought baking soda in bulk, added my son’s dream scent (an essential oil), and then shook the mixture over my rugs and furniture. I lightly brushed the mixture in, let it sit for 10 minutes and vacuumed it up. I think it did help make my furniture look nice, and smelt good too!

9. Going to bed with a clean kitchen.
In my house, I cook and my husband does the dishes, which works great for me but he often neglects the stove and countertops. I have seen many videos that discuss taking 10 minutes to help set your next day up for success. I now have been spending just a few minutes, wiping down the stove and the countertops. I will say waking up to a clean kitchen does feel great.

10. DIY stain remover.
We just adopted a rescue dog and you can say our carpet needs some stain remover lately. Fun times! I tried this—one cup water, 1/4 cup white vinegar, 2 tablespoons salt, four drops of clear essential oil—and it did the trick!
