10 years later, Miley Cyrus won't be shamed for posing for racy photo shoot at age 15

Miley Cyrus has rescinded an apology she made 10 years ago for a provocative photo shoot she did with Vanity Fair when she was 15.

The photos by Annie Leibovitz — which showed Cyrus wrapped in a bed sheet — sparked controversy at the time, with many saying the magazine had sexualized the young Disney phenom.

“I feel so embarrassed — I never intended any of this to happen,” the Hannah Montana star wrote to her fans at the time.

But the singer is now taking back that apology.

Cyrus tweeted her retraction along with an archived New York Post that had “Miley’s Shame” splashed across the front cover.

The conversation around sexualization of underage models is still prevalent. Just recently, 16-year-old Kaia Gerber kicked off controversy after posing in a minidress for Chanel.

And then there’s Thylane Blondeau, who sparked an uproar when she wore heels and a full face of makeup as a 10-year-old.

Cyrus’s defiant tweet was met with many messages of support from fans who felt she should not have been shamed for posing for the photos, while others still felt uncomfortable with the shoot.
