You won't find many girls with Y names in American classrooms.

"The letter Y is almost completely absent in traditional English girls names. But if you look around the world, it's a whole different story," Laura Wattenberg, the creator of Namerology, tells TODAY.com. "There's an incredible range of fast-rising Latina names like Yareli and Yaretzi. And there are also a lot of Arabic names with Yasmine being the most familiar one. In Japan, you have Yuki, and there's the Biblical name Yael in Hebrew.

The letter Y is more commonly seen at the end of a name, Wattenberg previously told TODAY. For example, Hadley, Everly, Aubrey, Ivy, Emery and Destiny are all included on previous Social Security Administration's popular names lists.

You can also find the letter Y smack in the middle of names or pulling up the rear. Don’t we all know a child (or two or three) named Brooklyn, Adalynn, Madelyn, Kaitlyn, Evelyn or Jocelyn?

The names we've listed are not just for girls, nor are they necessarily traditional girl names (for example, names like Yi and Yari are gender-neutral).

So if you’re itching to give your baby girl an unforgettable introduction, our collection of girl names that start with "Y" will steer you toward the best choice — now, what will it be?
