This 101-Year-Old Veteran Has Spent the Last Decade Volunteering for The Salvation Army

For the past 10 years, David Bevan has spent the holiday season as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. You can find the 101-year-old dutifully ringing that iconic bell for the Salvation Army in Pittsburg, Kansas. All donations dropped in Bevan’s red kettle are rewarded with a friendly smile.

A proud World War II veteran, Bevan started volunteering for the charity organization a decade ago as a way to give back to his community. He’s living proof that you’re never too old to help.

"[I] don't have a lot of money, but I can give him a little time and help out however I can," Bevan told local news station KOAM TV 7, who caught up with him on duty at Ron's Supermarket, just outside Pittsburg State University. "I feel good anytime somebody puts something in the container.”

He plans on keeping ringing the bell for years. "If I'm still around," he added, laughing.
