Get This: 11,000 Women Are Thinking of Running for Office

Here’s a fun fact to round out your day: Emily’s List, a political action committee dedicated to helping train, recruit, and elect female candidates to office, released a statement that they’ve seen a huge rise in women interested in running for political office over the past 100 days.

Stephanie Schriock, president of the organization, told the Washington Post this outstanding stat:

During the 2016 election cycle, the committee spoke to "about 900 women interested in running for school board, state legislature, or Congress.” And this year? They’ve spoken to upwards of 11,000 (yeah, those three zeros ARE intentional) in every state of the country. Now that, my friends, is what we call impressive.

"We've been working to recruit and elect women to office for over 30 years because we know that women bring unique and diverse experiences that matter for policies that will impact our families,” Emily’s List says on their website. "Forty percent of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color and more young women are stepping up to run. Diverse representation at every level of government means we’ll all have a voice.”

So here’s the takeaway, ladies. You don’t need to have 154 years of schooling, 12 political jobs, and a master's degree in all things D.C. to get politically involved. As Emily’s List so poignantly states: "it’s long overdue that you have a seat at the decision-making table.” Eleven thousand down, a few million more to go.
