12 Candles That Will Transport You to Your Favorite Destinations

1 of 12

Our wanderlust is growing by the day, and while our hopes for taking a vacation at some point in 2020 are growing, we’re still a long way from being able to visit our dream destinations once again—especially those that are overseas.

Thankfully, there are some truly incredible scented candles that offer the aromas of the cities, landmarks, and memories closest to our hearts. All you need is some mood music, a festive libation, and you’ll be whisked away from the comforts of home in no time.

Trish Baden, founder of Flores Lane, a candle company based in West Hollywood, says developing a candle that evokes an emotion of your most beloved destinations is a responsibility that requires a lot of hard work. She has developed more than a dozen candles from her favorite places across the country, from Cincinnati to Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.

"My creative process has a lot to do with the people and the culture," says Baden. "That can be a lot of diff things, like what’s grown around the area. When I developed my Charleston candle, the first thing I thought about was the Spanish moss and the smell it brings to the air, along with the sea breeze constantly coming in from the shore.

"There's lots of drinking and fresh food and flowers, and it causes me to wonder how all these things comprise a smell—and how do the people that live there interpret that smell? I'll then come up with a few different scents and see which one gives me that nostalgia feeling in my stomach."

We've curated a list of candles that do just that: envelop our homes in a wave of nostalgia and sweet memories, as we dream of these places until it it safe to once again venture out and visit our favorite haunts.
