Whether you're preparing for Halloween, a themed party, or a special event that calls for an angel costume, crafting a flawless angel makeup look is essential. A single scroll through YouTube or TikTok will show you countless iterations of angel makeup looks, complete with step-by-step instructions. From glitter-flecked cheeks to feathery liners, the ethereal options are endless.

To make things easier, we’ve curated a list of the best angel makeup tutorials around (at least in our humble opinion). We also spoke to makeup artists, Camara Aunique and Steve Kassajikian for their expert tips and tricks to help you achieve that coveted heavenly glow.

Meet The Expert

  • Camara Aunique is a celebrity makeup artist whose client list includes the likes of Angela Bassett, Ava DuVernay, June Ambrose, Naturi Naughton, and others.

  • Steve Kassajikian is Urban Decay's Global Makeup Artist.

Angel Wing Eye Makeup

The centerpiece of this angel makeup look is its breathtaking winged eye framing. This look can be done with a white liquid eyeliner, like Nyx's Vivid White Matte Eyeliner Nyx's Vivid Matte Longwear Liquid Eyeliner in white ($9). The dreamy look also features gilded gold eyeshadow, subtle blush, and a natural lip, topped off with a shimmery glitter finish.

Gold Tears Angel Makeup

If you love glitter as much as we do, this look is for you. It sees gold shimmer-dusted lids and white dipped lashes for a fairy-like feel, but the piece de resistance is the unexpected gold tears that make us far from sad. To brighten up your eyes, be sure to add white eyeliner to your waterline.

Old-Hollywood Angel Makeup

This glamorous angel makeup look instantly reminds us of something an old Hollywood starlet would wear. The key aspects are mile-long lashes, frosty eye shadow, and pink lipgloss. It's the perfect culmination of classic and heavenly. To get those fluttery lashes try the Ardell Individuals ($5). "You can also mix the Moondust Face & Body Liquid Glitter ($29) into your foundation for the ultimate sheer shimmer finish," says Kassajikian. Lastly, IGK's Preparty Hair Strobing Glitter Spray ($15) adds a veil of glitter to the hair, which can be layered upon for a more dramatic effect. What Halloween costume couldn't use a bit more glitter?

Lilac Angel Makeup

Michelle Phan's take on angel makeup is a little bit smokier and more dramatic than others on YouTube. Instead of the traditional frosty white shadow so many others use, she opts for a lilac purple color to define her crease. The shimmery shadows in the Juvia's Place Violets Eyeshadow Palette ($14) are perfect for replicating this look, plus Michelle walks through each step to guide you to the heavens. "I use the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($24) in shade Freebase," (when doing colorful eye makeup), says Kassajikian, "this is a matte white shade that blocks out your skin tone so you have a blank canvas to work on. It also allows any makeup you apply on top to look bold."

Glitter Cut Crease

Technically, this blue glitter cut crease wasn't solely created for pairing with an angelic Halloween costume, but we think it should be anyway. The sky blue certainly seems heavenly to us, especially when paired with a cloudy white eyeliner. Maybelline's Waterproof Gel Eyeliner ($7) in white is smudge- and water-proof.

Byrdie Tip

"Glitter is best applied with a flat, dense brush in a patting motion to avoid fallout. Pro tip: Use a setting spray to apply loose glitter. It will work like an adhesive for long wear," says Kassajikian.

Kylie Jenner Angel Makeup

Remember when Kylie Jenner dressed up as an angel for Halloween and surprised us all with her icy white mascara? This YouTuber re-created that very same look and we're still obsessed with it. To get the ultimate wow-factor you'll need rhinestones, like these from Amazon for $8. Lastly, every kind of angel makeup needs some highlighter. We recommend using this drugstore highlighter palette ($15) from Sleek MakeUP. Each of the four formulas has super-fine shimmer particles that give a natural-looking radiance to the skin.

Snow Angel

This look is all about cool-toned makeup. You'll need bubblegum pink lipstick, silver eye shadow, and some glue-on jewels to replicate it, and maybe a halo and a set of wings, too. Glitter is essential, and we love Stila's Glitter and Glow Liquid Shadow ($24). It has a creamy texture and ultra-pigmented finish that looks stunning on the eyelids. Plus it comes in a wide variety of shades, from neutrals to jewel tones.

"Danessa Myricks Beauty's ColorFix Magic Set & Seal gel ($18) is fantastic and locks in the makeup to help with Halloween glam," says Aunique.

Cherub Angel Makeup

This take on angel makeup doesn't focus on frosty white, silver, or gold. Instead, it's warm, youthful, and cherub-like. We love the editorial draped blush and bright statement lip.

Sultry Angel Makeup

Similar to the look above, this angel makeup is warm, dramatic, and editorial. In fact, we think this makeup look could be worn long after Halloween, and into the rest of the holiday season. After all, we'll never say no to a merlot-colored lip. Get the look using Covergirl Melting Pout Matte Liquid Lipstick in All Nighter ($7).

Holographic Angel Makeup

This makeup might have been created for a unicorn costume, but we think it would work perfectly as an edgier take on traditional angel makeup. Everything from the holographic silver shadow, silver star sequins, and hair glitter screams celestial. Start off by reaching for a primer, which will prep the skin for makeup and keep it in place all night.

After priming, for a base that glows to the heavens, Anique says, "I love using Iconic London’s Illuminator Highlight ($40), and ctzn cosmetics has Globalm ($20), which is an amazing gloss for the skin that you can use on the eyes, lips, and cheeks."

We also love the multi-colored lids, and think Lime Crime LID-LITE Eyeshadows ($16) would be a perfect match.

Gold Glitter Angel Makeup

If you prefer gold to silver, this all-over gilded look is for you. Aside from a set of faux lashes, you'll need chunky gold glitter and lots of it. NYX's Face and Body Glitter in Gold ($7), is perfect for recreating this look at home. Aunique says that art stores like Michael's also have a good assortment of glitter if you're having trouble finding one you like from a traditional makeup brand. Finish with a setting spray to keep everything locked in place. The Dewy Setting Spray ($8) from NYX is a fan favorite that adds an extra layer of glow to the skin.
