Sexy Movies on HBO Max Right Now
1. Beach Rats (2017)
Eliza Hittman’s Sundance Award-winning sophomore feature is a piercing, haunting character study of an aimless Brooklyn teen struggling with his sexual identity as his father falls ill. Sculpted, soft-featured ginger-haired star Harris Dickinson (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) is a breathtaking beauty–and a powerhouse performer to boot (you’ll be shocked to discover he’s British once you hear his New York accent). Beach Rats has an abundance of candid nudity; Hittman’s camera makes the most of Dickinson’s astonishing physique.
2. Magic Mike (2012)
Steven Soderbergh‘s comedic drama follows a hunky and naive 19-year-old (Alex Pettyfer) who enters the world of male stripping under the guidance of a seasoned pro (Channing Tatum). Magic Mike was a surprise summer smash—and a critical hit, too. This is the film that made Tatum one of the most sought-after stars in the world.
3. 9 1/2 Weeks (1986)
Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke star in Adrian Lyne's NYC-set erotic drama about a gallery owner who begins an affair with a Wall Street broker. Roger Ebert wrote a highly favorable review of the film, saying 9 1/2 Weeks was superior to other films of its ilk "because Rourke and Basinger make the characters and their relationship convincing."
4. And God Created Woman (1956)
Roger Vadim's erotic drama about a sexually liberated orphan wasn't the first film to star Brigitte Bardot, but it's the one that made her a household name of the time, a defining "sex kitten." Without explicit nudity (verboten at the time), And God Created Woman was so controversial enough in its day that law enforcement crashed some stateside screenings. Despite middling reviews, the forbidden fruit was a box-office smash.
5. Gia (1998)
HBO’s acclaimed biopic stars Angelina Jolie as American supermodel Gia Carangi, who became addicted to heroin, and died tragically at the age of 26. Gia costars Faye Dunaway and Elizabeth Mitchell; Mila Kunis also appears, playing Carangi at age 11.
6. Behind the Candelabra (2013)
Soderbergh's glossy-yet-gritty, deliciously soapy biopic of Liberace (Michael Douglas) and lover Scott Thurston (Matt Damon) was a huge win for HBO, winning 11 Emmys and two Golden Globes, on top of widespread critical acclaim. It premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or.

7. Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1989)
Pedro Almodóvar's uncanny blend of romantic comedy and horror movie was so controversial in its day that it went to court. Miramax sued the MPAA for slapping Tie Me Up! with an X rating (generally reserved for porn). Tie Me Up! was released unrated and still grossed a considerable sum for a foreign film, and one year later the NC-17 rating debuted.
8. Looking: The Movie (2016)
Andrew Haigh's subtle, insightful look at three gay BFFs in the Bay Area was just on the cusp of greatness when it was canceled after two seasons. HBO at least greenlit a two-hour special event to tie up loose ends—too neatly, in fact. Looking still has a dedicated fanbase; maybe one day down the line we'll get an HBO Max revival. Such a thing seems more possible than ever in light of the Sex and the City revival series.
9. The Dreamers (2003)
Michael Pitt, Louis Garrel and a pre-Bond, ever-luminous Eva Green star in Bernardo Bertolucci's drama about disillusioned youths experimenting in Paris as the 1968 riots loom. The Dreamers is a stunning love letter to cinema and the rebellious nature of artists. The kiss-of-death NC-17 guaranteed its box-office failure.
10. Jennifer's Body (2009)
Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried star in Juno Oscar winner Diablo Cody and The Invitation helmer Karyn Kusama‘s teen horror comedy about a high school hottie possessed by a demon, and the girl who vows to stop her reign of carnage. Critical and commercial disappointment upon release, now a widely admired cult classic.
