12 Books Meghan Markle Loves
Meghan Markle-AKA the Duchess of Sussex, AKA Rachel Zane of Suits fame-has only been a published cookbook author for two days, but her book is already a bestseller. Together: Our Community Cookbook is the sixth most-sold book on Amazon in the U.S., and in the U.K. (where it's been on sale since the 20th), it's sold nearly 11,000 copies, according to People.
It's a project Meghan's incredibly passionate about, beyond the fact that it's a natural fit for the humanitarian's skillset-after all, she did run a food and lifestyle site, The Tig, up until her engagement to Prince Harry. "This is more than a cookbook, and what I mean by that is, the power of food is more than just the meal itself. It is the story behind it," she said at a launch party. "And when you get to know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it. And that’s what we’re talking about in terms of coming together, to really engage and talk, and to be able to celebrate what connects us rather than what divides us."
Just as the cookbook reveals a little bit of who Meghan is, so does her decor. While Meghan and Harry haven't exactly opened the doors to Nott Cott or Adelaide Cottage to the world, MTV Cribs-style, you can glean some insights into who she is by what she kept on her shelves pre-social-media-blackout. The author used to regularly post photos of her home on Instagram, which you can still catch glimpses of on the tribute accounts that have popped up online.
Meghan's love of food and fashion is obvious-CRFashionBook.com editor Carine Roitfeld's Irreverent has been 'grammed on the star's table, along with rock and roll photographer Linda McCartney's eponymous Life In Pictures and The Kinfolk Table cookbook. Back in her blogging days, she also posted her summer reading list and shared the books she recommended everyone read in their lifetime, which included an array of self-help picks like The Tao Of Pooh and Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements.
Oh, and Meghan's been rocking the rainbow bookshelf trend years before it became an Instagram #shelfie staple.
She's also found unexpected ways to display her books, like stacking all of her red and black hardcovers into makeshift plant stands. It's proof that sometimes, your best ideas come to you when you think outside the shelf.
