12 Video Games Who Went Above And Beyond With Their Black Characters' Hair, And 5 Who Missed The Mark Completely

Hey y'all! So my name is Amatullah, and I'm an avid gamer. I've seen many (and I mean many) Black characters who, for lack of a better term, looked busted. Awful. Thrown together. And frankly, I'm tired.

So here are 12 that I personally think look amazing and represent what Black hair should look like (plus five that are, frankly, terrible).

11.Literally everyone in Horizon Forbidden West

I could literally cry looking at these characters!

12.Honorable mentions: Lee, Clementine, and Alvin Jr. in Telltale's The Walking Dead

Because of Telltale’s style, the graphics aren’t that detailed, so I wasn’t expecting a whole lot — but I’m including these three anyway because I love them with my entire heart.

Telltale Games / Skybound Games

And here are the few that just did not deliver...at all:

13.Sims 3

I love Sims 3. I really do. But none of their natural hairstyles look good (except for the locs that come with the University Life and Island Paradise expansion packs). Like, can someone explain to me why his braids look like paper?

Electronic Arts

14.Far Cry 5 (and, by default, Far Cry New Dawn because they have the same exact hairstyles)

Ubisoft Montreal / Ubisoft Toronto / Ubisoft

This is my character, who had to settle for a shorter cut because that was the only natural hair option they had.

15.Dragon Age: Origins

Why do his cornrows look glued on??

16.Lúcio in Overwatch

Lúcio's locs bother me A LOT. I get it. It's a video game. It's not supposed to be realistic. But I wish they added more detail to his locs because they look like one of those waving inflatable things that are usually outside of car dealerships.

Blizzard Entertainment

17.And finally, Lenny Summers in Red Dead Redemption 2

It just looks so matted. I know y'all could've done better, Rockstar.
