Residing within a relocated camphor forest that’s now an ecological reserve, the resort is a monumental architectural achievement consisting of modern accommodations and rebuilt Qing and Ming Dynasty villas that are available for family stays. The superlative dining and immaculate design-the work of the late, great architect Kerry Hill-that are hallmarks of all the Aman properties is on sublime display here, but the amenity that was invaluable to me during my stay earlier this year, especially after a week in noisy Shanghai, was the absolute silence of the grounds.
