15 ribbon fashion items that don't scream 'elementary school'
If anyone can make us seriously reconsider a trend, it’s Millie Bobby Brown. This past summer, the young style maven in the making made those infamous Topshop clear-knee mom jeans actually work. Plus, at this year’s SAG Awards, she rocked not only Converse, but also two buns with black ribbons. She’s not the only celebrity who has given this detail a chance. Dua Lipa went for a subtle ribbon-embellished bra to attend Capital’s 2017 Jingle Bell Ball, Bella Hadid styled it as a classic choker when she attended Dior’s Homme show, and Yara Shahidi went the extra mile with the ribbon on the backside of her SAG Awards dress.
Sure, this accessory can easily remind us of our arts-and-crafts years in elementary school, but one can’t deny its ability to transform a look. Whether it serves as a belt, choker, bandana, or simple add-on, a ribbon proves to be the one item everybody has in that forgotten drawer that can actually make a difference. But don’t take our word for it.
Some of the recent runways made a strong case for this versatile detail. For the spring 2018 couture collections, Valentino, Giambattista Valli and Chanel opted to use ribbons as belts. Meanwhile, ready-to-wear designers Self Portrait, Brock Collection, and Tory Burch incorporated a more subtle take on ribbons into their fall 2018 collections, going only for ribbon accent either on the sleeves or shoulders of their pieces.
If you need to change up your daily ensembles a bit, look no further. From earrings to purses, shoes, and clothes, here are 15 ribbon fashion items that will add a fresh and fun twist to your outfits.
