How the 15 x 15 x 15 Houseguest System Will Save Your Sanity

Updated

A wise man once said, “If you think you are enlightened, spend a week with your family." Another adage goes, “Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days.” It’s not that we don't love when people visit, of course, but it can be difficult to relinquish our sacred space. Thankfullyfeng shui and meditation expert Bryce Kennedy has a solution: The 15 x 15 x 15 system. According to Kennedy, this trick is all you really need “to prep yourself, calm yourself, and wind yourself down” when guests are around. (Umm, sign us up?) Here’s the deal.

BEFORE

At this point, you’ve probably been shopping for groceries, changing sheets and vigorously vacuuming for days—meaning, you’re already feeling frazzled and off your routine. Time for a self check-in: “Right before the guests come, take 15 minutes to meditate, breathe, visualize or journal,” says Kennedy. “Get in the right headspace for it! Align yourself to and get everything together in your inner landscape.”

DURING

The next segment comes during your guest’s visit. At some point, when things in your home are feeling extra nutty, Kennedy recommends peeling away for 5 to 15 minutes. “At the height of the chaos, simply go into a separate room and gather all the energy up that you've expended on others and bring it back to you,” he says. “You've already created the momentum from the first 15 minutes, but you’ll want to get back to that and strengthen it a bit.”

AFTER

Lastly, you’ll want to regroup once that crazy has exited your home. “When guests leave, we need to detox all of their energy,” he says. “Try 15 minutes of a lie-down, a shower, a meditation, music, smashing plates against the wall, etc. Whatever it is, take 15 minutes for you to shake off everyone that was in your space!”
