Wordle is still addictive as ever, and it's also more popular than ever. With the viral word puzzle game's sale to the New York Times, some Wordle players are worried that they may not be able to play it for free forever. While the NY Times stated that Wordle would remain free of charge and there would be no changes to the game for existing and new players, if you're looking for a Wordle substitute just in case—or if you just need your fix of more than one Wordle puzzle per day—these games like Wordle and its spinoffs will keep you entertained (and sometimes frustrated!) for as long as you want.

Games Like Wordle

1. Absurdle

Time to rip off the bandaid: Absurdle is not easy at all. It's different from Wordle in that it's hard and you have unlimited guesses—and that's not all. It's been called an "adversarial" version of Wordle, with the answer not being fixed, but changing as you go and narrowing it down slightly with each guess. If it sounds confusing, it's because it is! You can get full instructions on how to play here.

2. Dordle

Up for a challenge? Dordle is basically two Wordle boards side by side. You have six guesses to guess both words using one Wordle-like keyboard. This game is not easy! Spoiler alert for Daily Dordle #008 below to give you an idea of how the game is played.

In terms of strategy, many Dordle players find success by figuring out one side of the Dordle, then figuring out the other side—but that only works if you have enough tries left!

Dordle has a daily version as well as a free unlimited version.

4. Primel

Better with numbers than with letters? In that case, you're in luck. Primel makes you guess a five-digit prime number instead of a five-letter word. Like Wordle, you'll get alerted if a digit is in the right place, the wrong place, or not used based on the colors of the tiles.

5. Sweardle

Calling all potty mouths! Sweardle is a four-letter version of Wordle that lets you use exclusively curses, expletives, and generally explicit and colorful language. Work that vulgar vocabulary! (The screenshot below was a particularly tame one!)
