2 Celebrity Hairstylists on How to Extend the Life of Your Last Haircut

4 min read

No matter how many YouTube or IGTV tutorials we watch, we just don’t trust our shaky hands to spruce up our hairstylist’s hard work. That being said, it might be a while before we’re actually allowed back into a salon for a trim or a proper haircut. So, what’s a girl with split ends to do? We tapped two celebrity hairstylists for their top tips and products recommendations for keeping our current cut looking fresh until we can make it in for our next appointment. Here, all six of their must-have products.

Justine Marjan, Celebrity Hairstylist

Justine Marjan is responsible for some of the best-looking hair in Hollywood (like the Kardashians, Ashley Graham and Olivia Culpo, to name a few). We also count her as one of our favorite hairstylists to follow on Instagram and TikTok for her easy tutorials and expert tips. She also happens to have the best hair herself, so we knew she’d have some thoughts on how we can keep our own tresses looking healthy.

1. Aquis Lisse Luxe Hair Turban

“I suggest using a microfiber towel after washing your hair. It absorbs moisture faster without causing frizz and breakage like a traditional towel can.” We’re big fans of the Aquis Lisse Luxe Hair Turban for its easy-to-use design—just wrap it around your hair and secure it in back to keep your turban in place.

2. Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask

Marjan recommends applying a hair mask weekly to help nourish dry strands and prevent split ends. We’re partial to this reparative deep conditioning mask from Briogeo, but Marjan notes, “You can even make a homemade mask from coconut oil and honey.”

3. Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase

Silk pillowcases aren’t just ideal for keeping cool and fighting signs of anti-aging. Marjan points out that they’re also great for your locks, “They prevent frizz and friction while you sleep, so hair stays smoother and healthier.” That also means less breakage, so you won’t get that annoying frizz halo at the top of your head.

4. GHD Helios Hair Dryer

If you need to look a bit more put-together for Zoom calls, Marjan suggests blow drying with a tool that won’t damage your strands, like the GHD Helios Hair Dryer. “It smooths the cuticle layer of the hair with ionic technology, directs the airflow and dries the hair faster,” she notes.

Joseph Maine, Celebrity Hairstylist

If you’ve ever found yourself envying Ashley Benson’s or Katie Holmes’s locks, we hear you. Joseph Maine is the talent behind every perfect style. He’s the artistic director for Color Wow, the founder of Trademark Beauty and a stylist at Serge Normant at John Frieda in NYC, so he knows a thing or two (or three) about good hair.

1. Color Wow Color Security Shampoo

Maine points out that now is great time to rid your hair of buildup and residue, that can be from both products and pollution. He explains: “For that I recommend Color Wow Shampoo, which has a crystal-clear formula that’ll both help your color last longer and remove excess buildup from styling products.”

2. Color Wow Dream Cocktail Kale-Infused

“Looking good helps you feel good and it’s a great time to practice hairstyling skills you may otherwise not have the time for. Since we are less active, your style will likely last longer than ever,” says Maine. But he does warn against heat damage, which can wreak havoc on strands causing breakage, dehydration and frizz that could literally change the shape of your cut. He suggests adding a leave-in treatment like Color Wow’s Dream Cocktail Kale-Infused to help strengthen hair and protect it from high temperatures while you play around with beach waves or the most voluminous blowout ever.
