2 Stark County breweries win medals at U.S. Open Beer Championship. See the top winners
An Ohio brewery outpaced 9,000 other bottles of beer on the wall this year.
The U.S. Open Beer Championship, which is based in Oxford, Ohio, announced its 2024 winners this week and named an Ohio brewery as its 2024 Grand National Champion. The competition — which has been held for 16 years — featured more than 9,000 beers representing over 170 styles, with breweries from Hawaii to Portland, Maine, participating.
Third Eye Brewing named 2024 Grand National Champion of U.S. Open Beer Championship
The Grand National Champion award went to Third Eye Brewing Co. in Sharonville, just north of Cincinnati.
"So honored and humbled!" the brewery posted on Facebook. "Again, we are just so proud of our brew team!"
The brewery won four gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals. Its gold-medal finishers were Higher Consciousness, Double Astral, Dark Aura and Inner Sight.
"Third Eye Brewing is known for brewing some style-defining beers that are consistent winners throughout many competitions," competition organizers said.
Three Ohio breweries placed in the top 10, with Urban Artifact in Cincinnati in sixth and Sonder Brewing in Mason in ninth.
Two Stark County breweries win medals: Aeonian and Muskellunge
Muskellunge Brewing Co. in downtown Canton — which blended founder/brewer Frank Estremera's love of science and fishing — earned gold medals in the Scottish ale category for its Longnose Gar Heavy Wee and German-style Oktoberfest category for Bronzeback Oktoberfest. The brewery, which opened in 2018, is in the process of adding a kitchen.
Aeonian Brewing Co. in Alliance won a gold medal in the fruited gose category for its Peach El Saboteur. The brewery was opened in 2021 by Brandon Benson and Dean Economous.
Muskellunge and Aeonian weren't the only breweries in Northeast Ohio to win medals. Butcher and the Brewer in Cleveland, Immigrant Son in Lakewood, Jolly Scholar in Cleveland, Lock 15 in Akron, Market Garden in Cleveland, Masthead in Cleveland, Missing Falls in Akron, Phoenix in Mansfield, Schnitz Ale in Parma and Wrecking Crew in Medina also took home medals.
