2-year-old destroys more than $1,000 in cash after sending envelope through shredder
One Utah couple’s savings has taken a considerable blow after their toddler accidentally destroyed $1,000.
Ben and Jackee Belnap had recently taken cash out to pay for college football season tickets. They had placed the envelope containing $1,060 in an envelope in their home, but shortly after it disappeared.
Jackee found the money following a frantic search. “I’m digging through the trash and she hollers and says, ‘I found it,’” Ben told KSLTV. “She’s holding the shredder and she says, ‘I think the money is in here.’”
Apparently their 2-year-old son Leo is familiar with the shredder. “Leo helps me shred junk mail and just things with our name on it, or important documents we want to get rid of,” Jackee said.
While they’re upset, the Jackee and Ben have had a good sense of humor about it all. “We just, for like five minutes, we just shuffled through it, not talking. We didn’t know what to do and then I broke the silence and I’m like, ‘Well, this will make a great wedding story one day,'” Jackee told KSLTV. She added, KRON4 reports, “As devastated and as sick as we were, this was one of those moments where you just have to laugh.”
Thankfully there is some light at the end of the tunnel. The Department of Treasury said they might be eligible to get all their money back — in two years.
