Les Piaules, a chic hostel in Belleville that offers both dorms and private bedrooms, is a good option for anyone on a strict budget who still wants the feeling of a boutique hotel. There’s a bar and restaurant onsite, although the area boasts a lot of good dining spots, and the rooftop terrace is a great spot for a cocktail. If you want some privacy, book into “The Cosy One,” a private room with its own bathroom and coffee machine, although the shared dorms are notably well conceived, with built-in power outlets and reading lights in each bunk.

2. Hotel Panache
There’s a vintage vibe to the decor in Hotel Panache, but the trendy boutique hotel feels comfortable rather than overtly cool. There’s also an honesty bar, a library and a restaurant, although the surrounding neighborhood has everything you’ll need. Check the website for special offers when booking, as they’ll often give you a discount for booking direct.

The Hoxton, with hotels in London, New York, Amsterdam and more, has become synonymous with effortless cool. The Paris edition, with its ideal central location in the 2nd arrondissement, stays in line with this vibe, featuring buzzing common spaces and thoughtful rooms with nice amenities like free bottled water. Even the smallest guest rooms don’t feel too compact, especially if you can get one with a courtyard view, and a light breakfast gets delivered to your door in a bag every morning (for free). Look for special weekly events like DJ sessions, mixology classes and yoga.
Starting rate: $144
7. H?tel Original
No two rooms are alike in Hôtel Original, a quirky boutique hotel near the Bastille. It’s low-key, with only breakfast offered for an additional fee, but the area is ideal for those who want to explore the restaurants and cocktail bars of the Marais (look for a nearby hidden bar called Little Red Door). The staff is friendly and helpful, so ask for tips or recommendations, and check for special offers online when booking.

8. Le Citizen Hotel
Head north along Canal Saint-Martin to find Le Citizen Hotel, a hipster spot with a restaurant that often hosts pop-up eateries throughout the year. The 12 rooms, although slightly compact, overlook the canal, a benefit that shouldn’t be underestimated in a city hotel. There’s also a family suite with two separate bedrooms, perfect for those traveling with kids (or a group of friends). Breakfast is included in the rate, or you can stroll over to iconic nearby bakery Du Pain et des Idées. The neighborhood itself is especially good—close enough to more central areas like the Marais but far enough from the tourist crowds that you feel like you’re discovering something new.
Starting rate: $155
9. Hidden Hotel
The charm of Hidden Hotel is in the name. The small hotel is nestled in the center of things near the Arc de Triomphe, but out of the way enough to feel like it’s off the beaten path. The guest rooms have names like “Emotion Room” and “Sensation Room,” and each features an ambient, relaxing vibe that offsets the busy streets outside. There’s also a bar, two breakfast areas and a smoking room for those who like a cigar after dinner (although the hotel itself is non-smoking). Starting rate: $178
10. H?tel Monge
Situated in the heart of the Latin Quarter, Hôtel Monge is the sort of charming hotel that will make you want to spend all day in your room. Its 30 guest rooms are built into a former family home, so there’s a real sense of intimacy, and the decor is colorful and welcoming. The hotel also features a tea salon, an honesty bar and daily breakfast, but it’s the wellness offerings that really seal the deal. Book a visit to the hammam, which is complimentary for guests, or splurge on a massage. Be sure to take a walk over to the nearby Jardin du Luxembourg, one of Paris’s best green spaces, during your stay.
Starting rate: $223

Designed to capture the vibe of the 10th arrondissement, the property has brightly colored rooms with amenities like Bluetooth speakers and smart TVs. There are also bicycles available for rent to help get around town. The hotel’s restaurant, NENI, serves up eclectic dishes inspired by Middle Eastern and French cuisine, or you can head to the in-house bar, called Sape Bar, for an evening cocktail. There are 23 rooms spread across two houses that surround the courtyard, most of which are small but very nice. Try to score the tiny Sous Les Toits room, which overlooks Montmartre and Sacré Cœur from the eighth floor of the hotel. There’s also a great bar, open every evening, and a breakfast buffet available for an additional charge. Be sure to fully explore the Marais, from cocktail bars like Little Red Door to restaurants like Le Mary Celeste.
Starting rate: $250
14. H?tel Particulier Montmartre
Film buffs will be familiar with Montmartre from Amélie, which celebrated the vibrant neighborhood near the Sacré Cœur. Hôtel Particulier Montmartre, a small hotel with only five suites set in a 19th-century mansion, is a great place to use as a base to explore the area more fully. It’s very artsy and each suite has its own design, which includes unique artwork throughout. The Grand Salon serves breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner, and opens on the weekends for brunch. The best part is the massive walled garden, where you can grab a bite to eat or sip on a cocktail. It’s a favorite with celebrities visiting Paris, but the non-famous will also find the hotel ideal for their stay.

Select from a deluxe room, junior suite or two-bedroom suite, and enjoy Hermès toiletries, a private bar and smart TVs. The moody bar downstairs serves cocktails and light lunch and dinner options, and the hotel frequently offers special deals tailored to honeymoons and romantic getaways. Venture out to nearby Café des Deux Moulins, made famous in Amélie, or stroll through the narrow streets of Montmartre.
Starting rate: $390
17. Mandarin Oriental Paris
There’s a lot to like about the Mandarin Oriental Paris, from the central location to the lush courtyard to the serene indoor swimming pool. But the real draw is the rooms themselves, which are notably big by Paris standards. Book into a suite, if you have the budget, and be sure to stay on a Sunday, when casual dining spot Camélia puts on a memorable brunch in the courtyard. The hotel is also home to the Michelin-starred experimental restaurant Sur Mesure par Thierry Marx and the chic Bar 8, which includes several outdoor tables. Don’t miss the spa, one of the city’s largest hotel spas, and the expansive, like-new fitness center will help work off all those pastries you ate at brunch. Bonus: If you really want to indulge, reserve the new Parisian Apartment, which goes for a mere $35,750 per night.

The rooms—and the bathrooms—are truly opulent and feature butler service as well as nightly turndown and in-room check in. There’s a pool and fitness center for guests who want to stay active, but the Sense spa is where you should find yourself after a busy day of sightseeing.
