Wendy’s employees fired over video of ‘egregious behavior’ in kitchen: ‘Completely unacceptable’
A group of Wendy’s employees have been fired after filming a viral video in their restaurant’s kitchen.
The clip, originally posted on TikTok, shows one man taking a bath inside the sink at one of the chain’s locations in Greenville, Mich. The video shows a second employee looking on while wearing his Wendy’s uniform, while a third person laughs behind the camera.
Greenville resident Connor Somerfield reposted the clip to Facebook on Feb. 11, where it’s since been viewed nearly 80,000 times.
“So yeah I’m just gonna tell everyone right now DONT NOT GO TO THE GREENVILLE WENDYS. THIS IS DISGUSTING PLEASEEEEEE SHARE THIS,” Somerfield wrote.
In the video, the man wearing a Wendy’s uniform tosses a sponge to the unnamed man in the sink, telling him, “wash yourself.” He then continues to splash around in the soapy water, saying, “It feels like a hot tub — I’m just enjoying life, boss.”
It’s unclear what the man in the sink is wearing, but he is visibly shirtless and his bare legs can be seen sticking out of the tub. Originally, it was also not clear whether or not he was also an employee at the restaurant.
But on Feb. 12, Team Schostak, which operates 56 Wendy’s in Michigan including the Greenville location — confirmed to Newsweek that the man in the sink was, in fact, an employee. The company added that everyone involved in the video has since been fired.
“This egregious behavior is completely unacceptable and counter to our safety, training and operational standards,” Christian Camp, the company’s vice president of human resources, told Newsweek. “Upon learning of this situation, all employees in the video were terminated immediately and the restaurant has been completely sanitized.”
Camp added in a statement to the local Daily News that Team Schostak has spent the past few days doing everything in its power to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“We take it very, very seriously. We have already taken the proper steps to make sure something like this never happens again,” he told the newspaper. “We look at everything to make sure that everything is safe, for our employees, first and foremost, and definitely for our guests.”
