When you think of indoor security cameras, you might have flashbacks to articles you’ve read about the devices getting hacked, but hear us out: They can actually be a pretty useful smart device to add to your home.

While Amazon is already well-versed in designing smart home devices that are Alexa-enabled and generally make our lives easier — think the Echo Dot, Echo Show, Fire TV Stick and more — the company is now selling a new version of its indoor security camera, which first launched for pre-orders in early April 2020.

The new Blink Mini camera complements Amazon’s already existing line of indoor cameras (the Blink Indoor Home Security Camera System and the Blink XT2), but the catch is this newer model is the most affordable option yet at only $35. The Blink Indoor System and the Blink XT2 go for a whopping $80 and $100, respectively.

No matter where you place the Blink Mini in your home, the camera streams a live feed directly to your phone in 1080P HD quality, day or night, thanks to its infrared night vision. If there’s motion in your customized detection zones — that you can set via the app — you’ll receive immediate alerts on your phone, too.

And like all other Amazon gadgets, you can pair the Blink Mini to a supported Alexa-enabled device (like the Echo Show) to view your recorded video archive and arm and disarm using just your voice. If you have pets at home, don’t worry, you’ll be able to talk to them from afar thanks to the device’s live view and two-way audio feature.

Set-up only takes a few minutes, too. First plug in the camera, connect it to your WiFi and add the model to the Blink smartphone app.

While the Blink Mini offers plenty of helpful functions, if you’re looking for something more versatile that’s wire-free, also works outdoors and is weatherproof, you might want to consider the Blink XT2 version. But the new mini is definitely a great starter indoor camera, especially with more than 600 reviews and counting.

“I’m a Blink XT user with three cameras on the exterior of my home. The set up of the mini was far easier than the outside cams. I had this thing set up in less than five minutes … Sound is loud, which is what I was looking for,” one customer said.

And for those who are wondering how the Amazon’s Blink Mini camera compares to its competitors, the functions are similar and it all boils down to the price. The Blink Mini is by far one of the best affordable options on Amazon right now at $35, compared to Ring’s $60 indoor camera and Google’s Nest indoor camera at $129.
