2024 Ann Arbor Art Fair: What to know, where to park, pet policy

The Ann Arbor Art Fair kicked off Thursday morning, with a beautiful weekend of mild summer weather newly arrived in metro Detroit. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the Ann Arbor Art Fair?

The Ann Arbor Art Fair is actually made up of three different, independent art fairs, all occurring at the same time: The original Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, the Ann Arbor State Street Art Fair, and the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair. Held across a 30-block span in downtown A2 and featuring about 1,000 artists, it’s the nation’s largest juried art fair. Each day is packed with art opportunities, live demonstrations, performances, children’s activities and more. Over 30 food trucks and street food vendors are on hand for the weekend, and all of downtown A2’s restaurants, bars and shops are open for visiting. Roughly half a million people will visit the fair during the span of three days.

Artist Sidney Carter, of Powder Springs, Georgia, paints outside of his stand during the opening day of the Ann Arbor Art Fair in Ann Arbor on Thursday, July 20, 2023. The 3-day fair features almost 1,000 artists and draws in close to half a million attendees each year. This piece is called Intermission and features an artist "waiting to go back into the club to express himself," said Carter.

Can I bring my dog to the Ann Arbor Art Fair?

Dogs are welcome at the art fair, but be aware that pavement can get excessively hot this time of year. The fair encourages visitors to leave pets at home and bring them a special treat from the event, such as a new ceramic dish. For those who bring pets, the fair encourages covering their paws with booties and stopping for lots of water breaks.
