21st annual Scott’s Strawberry Festival celebrates beloved community member
UNICOI, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Town of Unicoi held its 21st annual Wayne Scott Strawberry Festival on Saturday at Unicoi Elementary School.
The Strawberry Festival honors Wayne Scott, one of Unicoi’s most beloved community members and founder of Scott’s Strawberry and Tomato Farm. The celebration includes handmade crafters, plenty of food and entertainment, and, of course, strawberries.
News Channel 11 spoke with Laura Rogers, the communications and events director for the Town of Unicoi, who said this year’s festival was a success even with the unfortunate weather.
“It’s great to see this turnout for the festival this year, especially with the rain,” said Rogers. “It’s just a great way to support local businesses and small businesses within our community. And we just want to thank everyone that came out today and supported these people, especially in the rain and the mud and all the weather that we’ve had this week.”
The festival’s strawberry theme is reflected each year in the food, decor and even the guests’ fashion.
“We get really excited when we see people that are all decked out in strawberries and some of our favorite, you have little kids that come and wear their little strawberry outfits and it’s just really nice to see everybody just support the business,” said Rogers.
