Just a brief scan of the last few runway seasons will confirm that there is no shortage of plaid at the moment — designers made sure to solidify its place in the prep revival that took over the Spring 2019 runways; and it subsequently received the street-style stamp of approval. The pattern famously co-opted by one Cher Horowitz is an essential part of the bourgeois wardrobe, evoking images of country clubs, expensive preparatory schools and squash matches (though it's still unclear to yours truly what that particular sport involves).
