26-pound shelter cat goes viral as adoption offers flood in

The internet has fallen in love with a big, beefy boy named Mr. B. In fact, the cat has proven so popular online that within hours of a Facebook post displaying his admirable figure and "sad-eyed guy" look, the shelter's website crashed, thanks to people who desperately want to adopt the 26-pound fella.

The Morris Animal Refuge in Philadelphia, Penn. went viral thanks to BeeJay, better known as Mr. B, and his search for a forever home.

Photos of the cat quickly caught the attention of social media users.

While the shelter's website is now back up and running, Mr. B's viral fame caused the site to crash on Thursday, as the shelter was inundated with requests to adopt the feline.

"We are overwhelmed by the number of wonderful people ready to give Mr. B his fur-ever home," the shelter wrote on Facebook in an update. "We are excited to find him a home soon, but he's not quite ready to go home yet. He still needs a more thorough check up by our vet. We will announce as soon as he's ready to go!"

While not everyone will have the honor of calling Mr. B their own, the shelter, and many shelters around the country, have other chonky boys and girls (and more svelte individuals) who are looking for a home.

“We actually had another cat that was in the shelter a few weeks ago that was about 25 pounds but he didn’t look nearly as big,” Emmy Homan with the Morris Animal Refuge told CBS Philadelphia. “Some of the cats, they weigh a lot but they don’t look as big as [Mr. B] does.”
