29 Halo Top Ice Cream Flavors, Ranked
Editors' note: This ranking does not include dairy-free or vegan flavors or any of the flavors from the Halo Top Pops line.
29. Birthday Cake
This one's for the kiddos (or your inner child). The combination of vanilla ice cream and sprinkles is a classic duo, but the flavor can skew a little too sweet for most grown-ups.
Halo Top Single Serving Birthday Cake Light Cake Mix, 1.76 oz.
28. Chocolate Mocha Chip
Halo Top's Chocolate Mocha Chip pint has an issue similar to the sprinkle-studded Birthday Cake flavor—it's just too decadent and you can really only handle a few spoonfuls at a time.
27. Chocolate-Covered Banana
Banana-flavored ice cream is tricky, so it's not really a surprise that Halo Top's Chocolate-Covered Banana flavor is currently discontinued. If it's not balanced correctly, the banana can easily take over. Sadly, that's exactly what you'll find when you scoop into this pint. There's just too much banana and not enough chocolate.
26. Mochi Green Tea
Another discontinued flavor, you have to genuinely stan green tea to appreciate this one. The green tea flavor is quite prominent (some find it perfumy) and the chewy mochi nubbins are a hit with some tasters and a miss with others. But if you're on team green tea and team mochi and you like a not-too-sweet ice cream, this could be a match for you, if it shows up in stores again.
25. Vanilla Caramel Milkshake
While it says "light ice cream" on the label, you can imagine how intense this flavor is just by reading vanilla... caramel... milkshake. Those three words together immediately made testers expect something too creamy. While it's definitely tasty, more caramel swirls would help break up the milkshake-ness of it all.
24. Blueberry Crumble
Normally we'd say that a flavor like Blueberry Crumble should stay in its dessert lane, but having the crumble and the a la mode together in one pint is downright delightful. This one is all about the mix-ins: chunks of crumble and swirls of sweet blueberry keep you coming back for more.
23. Caramel Macchiato
Coffee-flavored ice cream can often be a hit or miss, but Halo Top's Caramel Macchiato has just enough coffee flavor, plus a caramel swirl to keep things interesting. Speaking of interesting, one online reviewer stirs a little of this ice cream into coffee drinks instead of creamer, which is something we might have to try.
Halo Top Ice Cream, Caramel Macchiato, 16 oz (Pack of 8)
22. Cinnamon Roll
This was a pleasant surprise because we worried that this one might either be too sugary or too chalky. Thankfully, it was neither, but the real bummer here is that it's currently discontinued. It may have ranked #22, but we do hope Halo Top brings it back soon because we think it'd be perfect for brunch.
21. Oatmeal Cookie
Little oaty bits and a good dose of cinnamon bring the cookie vibes to this pint. This flavor would be especially good on an oat-topped crumble or sandwiched between a couple of oatmeal-raisin cookies.
Halo Top Oatmeal Cookie Light Ice Cream, 16 Fluid Ounce -- 8 per case.
20. Pancakes and Waffles
RIP Pancakes and Waffles! This discontinued flavor had a buttery vanilla base, waffle cone bits and a maple syrup swirl. It was a fun departure from the traditional flavors you see across other ice cream brands and would be another great addition to our brunch ice cream sundae bar (along with a pint of Cinnamon Roll). If it makes a comeback, that's the first thing we're doing.
19. Chocolate Cake Batter
Woah—the Chocolate Cake Batter is an extremely well-done flavor. The combination of chocolate and cake batter isn't one you see too often and while cake batter flavors can often be a miss, it's the chocolate that saves this one. Plus, the rainbow sprinkles throughout are just plain fun!
18. Chocolate Caramel Brownie
It was pretty much a tie between Chocolate Caramel Brownie and the Chocolate Cake Batter, but the caramel swirls and chunks of chewy brownie gave this Halo Top flavor an edge.
17. S'mores
Why gather around the campfire with a stick and a melted chocolate bar when you can get the nostalgic flavor of s'mores right in a pint? Oh, because it's currently discontinued. Still, this flavor is one of the good ones, so we're really hoping Halo Top gets the message and brings back the marshmallowy goodness.
16. Mint Chip
There's something about mint-and-chip flavors that either works really well or not at all. File this one under "works well," though we'd recommend adding some chocolate syrup and a little something extra.
Halo Top Mint Chip Ice Cream,, 16 Ounce (Pack of 8)
15. Pistachio
While some pistachio ice cream can have a bitter flavor, Halo Top's is creamy and light, making us want to get to the bottom of the pint in one sitting... every time. But there is one thing that gives us pause— there are no pistachios on the ingredients list. How does Halo Top get that signature pistachio flavor without using any real nuts? We'll ponder that when we sit down with our next pint.
14. Limited Edition Chocolate Ice Cream Cake
While it's currently a limited edition flavor, Chocolate Ice Cream Cake should be one that Halo Top keeps permanently (IMHO). Clearly, Halo Top knows how to make a quality cake-based flavor and with a heaping of cocoa and plenty of cake crumbles throughout, we're really hoping this flavor stays for good.
13. Lemon Cake
This flavor is a winner in our eyes. It has a refreshing lemon flavor and is giving lemon pound cake or lemon cake pop vibes. Since the flavor has been discontinued, we're going to try and recreate the experience by serving a scoop of Halo Top Vanilla Bean on top of a slice of lemon pound cake.
12. Red Velvet
Halo Top delivers an excellent red velvet ice cream. The ratio of brownie chunks to ruby-hued ice cream is neither too much nor too little. It's just right.
Halo Top Red Velvet Light Ice Cream, 16 Fluid Ounce -- 8 per case.
11. Limited-Edition Raspberry White Chip
Halo Top excels on the limited edition front! The most delicious part of the Raspberry White Chip is that raspberry is actually the base flavor and the white chips are sprinkled throughout. It's much tastier than vanilla- or chocolate-based ice cream with swirls of raspberry (which is what we were expecting).
10. Candy Bar
Another pleasant surprise, Candy Bar Halo Top is a candy lover's dream. With chocolate, nougat, peanuts and a caramel swirl, this treat is a quadruple threat.
9. Cookies and Cream
Old faithful, the Halo Top Cookies and Cream ice cream flavor doesn't disappoint. It's got a permanent spot in our rotation and like all other protein-heavy Halo Top flavors, we're happy to get our protein from dessert!
Halo Top Cookies and Cream Light Ice Cream, 16 Fluid Ounce -- 8 per case.
8. Peaches and Cream
Peaches and Cream would undoubtedly be the Halo Top flavor of the summer if it weren't discontinued. It's better than any peach sorbet or gelato we've had. Halo Top, if you're listening, please bring this flavor back!
7. Vanilla Bean
With just milk and vanilla beans, you might think this flavor would be boring, but we're happy to report that Halo Top nails this classic pint. This vanilla ice cream makes a great base for a sundae or a milkshake, but we're especially fond of a scoop on top of a piece of warm apple pie.
6. Black Cherry
This one really breaks our hearts. The fact that Halo Top discontinued Black Cherry is a travesty and if the brand ever decides to resurrect any of their old recipes from the flavor graveyard, it better be this one. When it comes to all-black cherry-flavored ice creams, the chunkier the better and by "chunky," we're talking about chunks and chunks of sweet, chewy cherries.
5. Peanut Butter Cup
If we had to sum it up in one word, it'd be: "delicious." If we had any criticism at all, it would be that Halo Top should rename the flavor to "Peanut Butter Lover's Dream" because it really leans into the saltiness of PB, which is something we fully support.
Halo Top Peanut Butter Cup Light Ice Cream, 16 Fluid Ounce -- 8 per case.
4. Strawberry
This pretty pink pink tastes as good as it looks. The fresh strawberry flavor was on point. This is great solo, or paired with a scoop of Vanilla Bean (#7) and Chocolate (#2) for a fun sundae or banana split.
Halo Top Single Serving Strawberry Light Cake Mix, 1.76 oz.
3. Sea Salt Caramel
You'll have absolutely no problem living out Halo Top's "Stop when you hit the bottom" slogan with Sea Salt Caramel. It's super creamy and these are not "swirls" of caramel—they're rivers of caramel. A+ across the board.
Halo Top Sea Salt Caramel Light Ice Cream, 16 Fluid Ounce -- 8 per case.
2. Chocolate
Sometimes simple is better. If given the choice between Chocolate and Halo Top's more elaborate flavors, we'll reach for this classic every time. The flavor profile skews more toward the cream-based chocolates you find in Europe. Other brands can fall into the trap of chocolate that's too milky or chalky, but this one transports us to the streets of Paris.
Halo Top Single Serving Chocolate Light Cake Mix, 1.76 oz. (Pack of 12)
1. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Cookie dough chunks, mini chocolate chips, and a smooth, creamy vanilla base. We could eat this flavor every day. No notes!
