Bringing art to life has never been easier with 3Doodler, a 3D printing pen that lets artists draw without using a surface.
Created by New York-based company WobbleWorks and considered the world's first 3D printing pen, 3Doodler uses Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastic, a thermoplastic polymer that 3D printers also work with. When plugged into an outlet, the pen emits a heated plastic that cools almost immediately once it comes into contact with air.
With the 180-by-24-millimeter pen, users can draw on a flat surface or go one step further by creating jewelry, pendants and decorative art out of thin air. But the reality is that the creative possibilities are endless. In fact, one savvy designer managed to fabricate a remote-controlled toy plane (it didn't fly for more than a few seconds, but, hey, we're talking about a plane here).
And if you think this item is just a gimmick, fear not. The internet has had high praise for this innovative product ever since it launched as a Kickstarter project in 2013.
"I really enjoyed the 3Doodler," one person glowingly wrote on Amazon. "My kids enjoyed it as well. We all like to draw and be creative, this takes the creativity to a whole new and different level. You lift your pen off the paper and go into the 3rd dimension...up! "
"I purchased this item for my 14 year old for his birthday," another wrote. "By the end of the first day he was creating like he had been born with it. Very user friendly, easy to manipulate and control. Recommend this one (we own two other brands) to anyone just starting out."
Thanks for letting us know, internet!
