Somehow the Golden Globes red carpet was less dramatic than what happened off of it: Rihanna made a surprise appearance. The singer, nominated for her original song "Lift Me Up" from Black Panther, strolled into the 80th annual awards ceremony minutes after everyone else arrived. Her voluminous black gown didn't just have a train, each sleeve of hers trailed on the ground, like the ribbon of an extremely fabulous, fashionably late bow.
The red carpet also had lots of bows, and taffeta, and sequined gowns, but our favorite looks were a little less expected. There was Letita Wright in a burnt orange custom dress by Prada, and Margot Robbie in a slinky pink custom Chanel gown. And while statement necklaces were noticeably absent, our new favorite red carpet accessory styling has emerged: wearing rings over your gloves like Natasha Lyonne and Dolly De Leon.

1) Letitia Wright in Custom Prada and Bulgari Jewelry
Letitia Wright's Black Panther press tour famously consisted of some very, very, good suits. But we love this incredible burnt orange custom Prada dress, inspired by the latest runway show, with a freakishly sexy jagged leg slit, just as much.
2) Margot Robbie in Chanel
Margot Robbie's gown is the slinky pink custom Chanel of dreams. The halter-neck dress with sheer diagonal stripes, tulle skirt, and a silver star embellishment at the neck allegedly took over 750 hours to make.
3) Dolly De Leon Wearing Alessandra Camilla Milan Earrings and Edward Avedis Diamond Ring
Dolly De Leon starred in Triangle Of Sadness, which received a eight-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival. And we'd give this leather gown with matching gloves an eight-minute standing ovation too, if we could.
4) Sigourney Weaver in Yves Saint Laurent
The theme of the 2023 Golden Globes's red carpet was no doubt rosettes, and Sigourney Weaver wore the trending embellishment best. Her Yves Saint Laurent gown was a long V-neck satin gown by Anthony Vacarrello, with a simple but stunning rosette at the center.
5) Angela Bassett in Chopard Jewelry
Tonight Angela Bassett was the first performer to win an individual acting award for a role in a Marvel film. Her sleeveless silver number couldn't feel more fitting for the historic evening.
6) Michelle Williams in Gucci
There was no dearth of ruffles on the red carpet but Michelle Williams's one-shoulder Gucci gown with head-to-toe pleated ruffles was by far our favorite.
7) Daisy Edgar-Jones in Gucci
Daisy Edgar-Jones's Gucci gown consisted of a plunging corset embellished with sequins and a tiered ruffle floor-length skirt. She allegedly told E! red carpet host Laverne Cox she is already learning Carole King songs on the piano to prepare for the new biopic, but we were too fixated on her gown to notice.
8) Lily James in Atelier Versace
Lily James looked like a blossoming rose in a billowing Atelier Versace dress that reminded us of the over-the-top looks of Old Hollywood.
9) Natasha Lyonne in Givenchy
Tonight Natasha Lyonne has proved the LBD doesn't have to be little. Instead it's all about this long, ruched, Givenchy gown, complete with gloved sleeves and chunky rings and bracelets worn on top.
10) Michelle Yeoh in Armani
Michelle Yeoh won Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture for her role in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. And her stunning strapless Armani peplum dress might be the only thing that could bring peplum back for real.
11) Seth Rogan
Thankfully, Seth Rogan's red carpet suits have been getting progressively pinker throughout the years. And we'd be more than fine if this became his red carpet uniform.
12) Claire Danes in Giambattista Valli
If you're going to debut your baby bump at the Golden Globes red carpet, you should do it in Giambattista Valli a-la Claire Danes. The actress wore a floor-length white gown embroidered with flowers and fringe just one day after announcing she was expecting her third child with husband Hugh Dancy.
13) Jessica Chastain in Oscar de la Renta
Elegant spiderwebs do exist, at least when they're designed by Oscar de la Renta and worn by Jessica Chastain. According to her stylist Elizabeth Stewart, the dress had a last minute tailoring at noon, and came with a matching webbed mask.
