5 Denim Trends We'll All Be Wearing in 2018

Updated

We don’t plan on retiring our go-to skinnies or ditching our basic jean jacket any time soon, but it’s always fun to mix things up where our wardrobes are concerned. From denim skirts you can wear to a nice dinner to—gasp—the return of low-rise, here are five denim trends we expect will be huge this year.

Boiler Suits

Denim jumpsuits aren’t exactly new, but the slouchy, belted variety is particularly of-the-moment. Thanks to a button-down front and loose fit, it’s super-comfy and surprisingly versatile. You could dress it up with pointy-toe heels and a silk neck scarf or go a bit more relaxed with your go-to sneakers and a casual ponytail.

Fancier Skirts

Denim minis were a staple of our early 2000s wardrobe, but like us, they’ve come a long way. Instead of skirts so short, you’re uncomfortable sitting, look for dressier, more grown-up versions in an A-line or midi silhouette. Gaze at the gorgeous outfit above and tell us you wouldn’t wear that out to a nice dinner with pals.

Low-Rise Boyfriend Jeans

We regret to inform you (and your granny panties) that low-rise denim is back. Luckily, unlike the Britney-Spears-inspired low-rise styles of yore, this year’s are a touch more forgiving, since they’re in a boyfriend silhouette instead of, say, a skinny. Tuck in your blouse for extra coverage and polish.

Exaggerated Cuffs

This dramatic look works best with really long jeans (so short ladies, listen up) and is especially cool if they’re high-waisted and fraying at the bottom. In addition to being a fun, unexpected update on one of our go-to styling tricks, exaggerated cuffs are perfect for showing off a killer pair of shoes.

Asymmetrical Hems

Yes, still. This look has been going strong for a while now and for good reason: It’s edgy yet sophisticated and looks good on just about everybody. This year, expect misaligned edges on dresses, skirts and even jackets.
