5 Skincare Tips Dolly Parton, 75, Swears By
After decades in the spotlight and countless hits, you'd think that Dolly Parton would look a little worse for the wear. And yet, at 75, it seems she's never looked better? But Dolly doesn't want you to be fooled, she's made it clear that it takes work to make her look as good as she does. Southern Living shared that she's been quoted saying "I'm no natural beauty. If I'm gonna have any looks at all, I'm gonna have to create them."
The makeup lover says that she's been wearing makeup since she was a little girl and used to use berries for lipstick and a burnt matchstick for eyeliner back before she was allowed to wear the real stuff. "We were raised in the Pentecostal Church of God and they believed that wearing makeup was sinful. My Grandpa Jake, my Mama’s dad, was a preacher. So I had to sneak around and make myself look all pretty but then wash it off before they caught me," Dolly shared in her memoir, "Dream More: Celebrate The Dreamer In You." But besides makeup, she has shared a few of her skincare and anti-aging secrets over the years. Keep reading to find out exactly how she keeps up her looks.
She only washes her face in the morning.
When asked by The New York Times if she had any travel skincare tips, Dolly responded by saying "I clean my face in the mornings. You never know if you’re going to wreck the bus, you never know if you’re going to be somewhere in a hotel and there’s going to be a fire. So I leave my makeup on at night and clean my face in the morning." I think it's safe to assume she then reapplies her makeup.
When it comes to skincare, she swears by these two drugstore staples.
“I try all the new things that come out, but there’s nothing better than good old Vaseline and those Almay eye makeup–remover pads,” Dolly told First For Women. “I use those little pads to clean my face and it leaves enough mineral oil on my skin that it’s a good nighttime moisturizer. I have pretty good skin considering my age, and I think a lot of it is mineral oil and bacon grease.”
She prioritizes her makeup.
“First thing I do in the morning, after I have my breakfast and do my spiritual work, is put on my makeup and fix my hair, and I can do my makeup in 15 minutes,” the singer told Belfast Telegraph.
She believes in in-office treatments.
"Thanks to Botox and fillers, as well as the work that I've already had, my face pretty much maintains itself. I look at myself like a show dog. I've got to keep her clipped and trimmed and in good shape. If I see something sagging, bagging, or dragging, I'll get it nipped, tucked, or sucked," Dolly shared on Southern Living.
She credits botox for making her look happy.
"People always say I look happy and I say well that's the botox. Good lighting, good makeup, and good doctors, that's my secret," Dolly told The Today Show.
