5 Standout Products from Zipp, Speedplay, Velowürks, Quarq, and DeFeet
DeFeet x Handlebar Mustache Socks
DeFeet and Handlebar Mustache, purveyor of t-shirts and other fashionable goodies, have teamed up for a collection of very bright socks ($15 a pair). Six colorways are offered, all based on DeFeet’s six-inch Aereator (60% Nylon, 39% Coolmax,1% Lycra) platform.
Zipp Rotor Protectors
These neoprene covers ($20 each) from Zipp are designed to protect your disc rotors when transporting or storing your wheels. They’re made of neoprene, so they protect against contamination, not impact. They’re compatible with both QR and thru-axle wheels, and are offered in two sizes: for 140mm rotors, and for 160mm rotors.
Speedplay Syzr Chrome-Moly
Speedplay now has a $165 version of its Syzr pedal with chrome-moly spindles. This is the “entry-level” version, slotted below the $199 (stainless axles) and $389 (titanium axles) versions. Other than spindle material, the pedals are the same. Also announced, four spindle-length options for the stainless-steel Syzr: 50, 53, 59, and 65mm. Custom-built pedals with different left/right axle lengths are also available.

Velowürks Tubeless System Sealant
Velowürks Tubeless System Sealant is pitched as longer lasting, less messy, and less corrosive than other tubeless tire sealants. The formula uses only four-percent latex (Stan’s NoTubes sealant is 15- to 30-percent latex), and, instead of propylene or ethylene glycol, uses less-toxic glycerin as antifreeze. It’s claimed to last six months, with no balling up, and seals up to 3mm punctures (Stan’s is claimed to seal 6mm punctures). I’ve tried several less toxic/corrosive tire sealants over the years, and they never work as well as Stan’s. I’ve got a big ol' jug of Velowürks sealant to test and will report back after I’ve had time to try it. Three sizes are available: 90mL ($4), 500mL ($24), and 2000 mL ($70).
Quarq Colored Battery Cover Kit
New from Quarq is this dress-up kit ($40) for its power meter's battery covers. The kit comes with a knurled cover and interchangeable laser-etched aluminum decals in six colors (two of each color provided). The kit is compatible with Quarq power meters produced after January 8, 2015.
