5 Tips for Keeping Up Your Bikini Wax Routine in the Winter

2 min read

1. Keep Up Your Routine

It may be tempting to skip a waxing appointment or two since you’re bundled up and not rocking sundresses on the reg, but consistency is key. Why? Well continuing your normal waxing schedule will ensure the hair follicle remains weak, making waxing less painful and hair growth increasingly sparse. Long story short, you don’t want to be dealing with a mini forest come summer because you got out of your routine in the winter months. Pro tip: European Wax Center has an assortment of wax passes to make it easy and cost-effective to stay on schedule.

2. Exfoliate

In between appointments, it’s important to exfoliate in order to avoid ingrown hairs. Aim to use an exfoliating mitt, wipes or scrub once a week. Just be sure to avoid exfoliating one to two days prior to your waxing appointment. And, as always, be gentle.

3. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Skin is generally drier in cold weather, so it’s important to apply a thick lotion or body butter to the waxed area several hours after your appointment. In the days and weeks following, be sure to keep your moisturizing routine up and skin flakiness at bay.

4. Don’t Go Overboard with the Hot Showers

As good as hot showers or baths feel (especially when it’s freezing outside), they tend to strip your skin of natural oils. Shoot for lukewarm water instead or, if you’re partial to hotter water, just be sure to moisturize extra thoroughly. Remember, if you’re thirsty, your skin probably is, too.

5. Check Your Growth

Interestingly, hair grows more slowly in the winter, meaning you may be able to wait a bit longer between appointments. This is because your pores are constricted by the cold weather and it can take hair longer to push through than it might in warmer months. Still, be sure to keep a careful watch so you don’t wait too long.
