  • Paulina Porizkova opened up about the shame associated with aging in a clip from a past interview she shared on Instagram.

  • Some followers took the message out of context and encouraged her not to be ashamed of her age.

  • “Speaking about shame, admitting you know it and figuring out why and when you feel it is a foundational step in getting rid of it,” she wrote.

Paulina Porizkova will always tell it how it is—even if that means she’s met with mixed opinions. The former supermodel, 59, recently reshared a clip from an interview she did with StyleLikeU in 2022 that discussed aging and shame—the soundbite focusing on aging, as a woman, being associated with “endless freaking shame,” she said. The entire interview discussed her life story and how she and her peers might dismantle that shame, but some followers took her point out of context and struck up a debate.

In the clip Porizkova reshared, she said: “There’s so much shame heaped on us for everything—for the way we look, for our age, for our weight, for our skin, for the way we dress, I mean, it’s just endless freaking shame. And menopause is just another thing to be ashamed of because you’re no longer a viable woman.”

StyleLikeU also reshared the clip, captioning it: “NO?? MORE??ENDLESS?? FREAKING??SHAME??.”

Many women Porikzova’s age and older chimed in and questioned Porizkova’s message—encouraging her to embrace her age, reject shame, and forget about the rest. However, if you follow Porizkova, you know that’s exactly what she does—which is why some of her longtime supporters ran to her defense. “Thank you for speaking up for us!!! Your words are powerful!! ????” one person commented. “Keep being YOU??,” another added. “Rock on Sister! 56 and I’ve never loved myself more!” someone else wrote.

In a follow-up post, Porizkova clarified what she’s all about and welcomed new followers. “Anything taken out of context can easily be misinterpreted,” she wrote. “I have gotten so many well-meaning comments about how I should embrace my age and not feel ashamed!
It’s pretty obvious they are from new ladies on my page. That is very exciting!”

She continued: “Speaking about shame, admitting you know it, and figuring out why and when you feel it is a foundational step in getting rid of it. Airing it out. Shame only thrives in dark corners. The sun obliterates it... [I’m] not ashamed of baring it at all. Physically and emotionally. (As those of you who have stuck with me for a while know??).”

Once again, Porizkova bridges a gap and brings people together.
