6-year-old girl rescued after posting photos of dead father on Facebook
A young girl shared images of her dead father online after witnessing a pit bull tear at his face.
The 6-year-old child managed to get help only after she sent photos of the gruesome scene to family members via social media late on Thursday. Her horrified relatives then contacted emergency services, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The girl’s stepmother, 36, was discovered unconscious in the house in Mount Morris Township, Mich., with police believing she had suffered a drug overdose along with her partner.
“Her actions, we believe, actually saved a life,” Mount Morris Township Police Chief Terence Green said of the young girl.
“This 6-year-old went through a traumatic event — and she saved a life.”
The stepmother was rushed to the hospital and remains in intensive care. She has not yet been able to provide information to police.
Police were notified of the incident by the girl’s grandparents, who were sent images by the child via Facebook Messenger.
When officers arrived at the property, they heard the screams of the young girl, who informed them that “the dog was chewing on someone’s face.”
Police have yet to confirm the identities of those involved.
