Purchasing a bed, dresser, and some nightstands will definitely get the ball rolling when it comes to designing a sleep space, but you're not fully done with this room until you incorporate some accent pieces, too.

Interior designers weigh in with different accessories that you'll want to make a point to include in your bedroom so that your space looks stylish and complete. Some of these are items that you'll need to purchase, but others may be sitting in other rooms of your house already and are just begging to be given a new purpose.

Below, we highlight seven decor pieces every bedroom needs.

Stylish Organization Solutions

The practical items that you choose to incorporate in your bedroom can still be pretty.

"There are some small, easy fixes that go a long way; a whimsical but practical nightstand catch-all tray, or a purposeful and pretty basket that doubles as a hamper," Ellie Mroz, the founder of Ellie Mroz Design, says.

Choose items that reflect your personal style rather than generic-looking plastic bins, and you'll appreciate the difference they make in your space. Who knows, maybe you'll even become better at picking up after yourself.

Mina Lisanin, the founder of ML Interiors, emphasizes that an organized bedroom is the key to maintaining a peaceful environment.

Artwork

No bedroom is complete without some artwork, and the size, medium, and type of display you go for is entirely your choice.

Lisanin explains how adding artwork to your bedroom walls allows you to instantly inject personality and visual interest into the space. She recommends choosing pieces that resonate with you personally and complement your decor aesthetic.

Whether you opt to just hang one oversized piece above your dresser or wish to install an entire gallery wall is up to you.

Throw Pillows

In addition to sleep pillows, you'll likely want to include some throw pillows in your bedroom, too.

"Choose a variety of sizes, shapes, and fabrics to create visual interest and provide support for lounging or reading in bed," Lisanin says.

Lisanin's current go-to throw pillow is a sphere boucle pillow which brings texture and warmth into the space.

Adding extra pillows to your bed will do more than just add a comforting touch to your space.

"By incorporating custom pillows that add texture and create a layered look, along with a soft blanket that serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, you can anchor the bed and enhance the room's overall feel," Blanche Garcia, the founder of B. Garcia Designs, says.

Sentimental Pieces

It's important that your sleep space reflects your interests and personality. This may mean weaving heirloom pieces into your room or showcasing items from your travels.

In one project, Andrea Seymour, the lead designer at Springdale Custom Builders, incorporated framed book pages above the bed that her client had purchased while traveling in Denmark.

Greenery

Bring those plants into the bedroom, whether they're large or small. Amy Youngblood, the founder of Amy Youngblood Interiors, explains how adding some greenery, whether it's a small bud vase or a faux one, will bring a sense of calmness and interest to your nightstand.

Tall potted plants are great for filling empty bedroom corners and will add height and visual interest to your bedroom in an instant.

A Carafe Set

Take a cue from your favorite fancy hotel and place a carafe and water cup on the nightstand in your bedroom and you'll feel like a queen as you prepare to go to bed each evening.

"The accessory has been around longer than anyone can remember and is still a tried and true functional accent to the bedroom," Garcia says.

Lighting

You'll want to be sure to incorporate multiple types of lighting solutions in your bedroom. After all, no one wants to rely solely on the harsh overhead light.

To add ambiance, incorporate some bedside lamps and task lamps in the room as well, Lisanin notes.

However, there are plenty of ways to get creative if you're short on space. Garcia recommends using a wall sconce if you have to push a bed against the wall, so you can easily create some bedside lighting.
