This weekend, check out recent Tony Award winner Kara Young playing opposite her real-life love interest Biko Eisen-Martin in Douglas Lyons’ new play about the demise of a relationship. Fresh off her 2024 Tony Award win for Kenny Leon‘s revival of “Purlie Victorious,” Kara Young is lighting up the stage with her real-life companion Biko Eisen-Martin in Douglas Lyons’ new romantic comedy, described as an “autopsy of a relationship.”
Helmed by Zhailon Levingston, who earlier this summer breathed new life into Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic “Cats” with “The Jellicle Ball,” the action is set at a restaurant table where the former couple reunite to discuss why their five-year love affair hit the skids. Dallas Thompson (Eisen-Martin) and Jada Cory (Young) are a true chemistry match made in heaven.
Michael Rishawn, previously seen in Lee Daniels‘ short-lived Broadway romp “Ain’t No Mo” is a standout in multiple roles, but he shines brightest as River, the restaurant server.
The 85-minute production, which encourages audience members to be active participants, has already been extended twice and received rave reviews since officially opening last week. So there may be much more to come from this MCC Theater world premiere.

With the weather promising to be gorgeous this weekend, Brandon Flowers and his bandmates will aim for the kill in two shows at the historic outdoor music venue in Queens. Fans can expect the dapperly dressed, five-time Grammy nominees to perform songs from their two-decade plus repertoire, including “Mr. Brightside,” “Smile Like You Mean It,” “When You Were Young” and “Runaways.”

Award-winning Afro-Dominican artist Patricia Encarnación says her latest exhibition, presented by Superposition Gallery, takes a photo documentary-style approach to the imagery — which shows people of color in their natural state in natural settings — and “aims to evoke an appreciation for the kinship between humanity and nature, us and the land, and an apolitical/borderless understanding of territories.”

The entire family can come out to see the enduring 1939 classic starring Judy Garland as Dorothy, the Kansas farm girl who’s swept up into the magical Land of Oz. The enduring Hollywood classic has been emulated time and time again for nearly a century.
Based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s novel, the Academy Award-winning film, which also stars Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton, is considered the most-seen film in movie history by the Library of Congress.

The Emmy-winning comedy provocateur returns to the Gowanus venue to deliver his brew of vulnerable, self-deprecating and deadpan humor — recently put on front street in the critically acclaimed HBO series, “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.” He’ll get a chance to work out some new standup material after tanking a rare and anticipated performance at London’s Soho theatre in March.

Promising to be “the biggest Latin & Caribbean food festival New York has ever seen,” the event will offers much more than food faves like tacos, arepas, jerk chicken and bacalaitos.
There will also be live mural painting from Daniel Bonilla and custom shoe designs by EvanTheArtist. Musical performances will include Cristian Allexis, Batala New York, Latin fusion band Afro Dominicano and the Brooklyn-based all-female musical collective La Manga.

The historic site created in 1939 for New York World’s Fair will host this inaugural race offering a half marathon, 10K and 5K in an event produced by local nonprofit B Local NYC. According to co-chair Marissa Davis: “This event is not just about running; it’s about empowering our community, supporting sustainable practices and celebrating the diversity that makes New York City unique.”
