7 Ways to Make Valentine’s Day Easier with Google Nest

Making sure your Valentine’s Day celebration goes exactly as planned can be quite stressful considering there’s a lot to manage between arranging food, ambience and gifts.

But most of us forget that we actually have an underutilized helper right in our homes — a Nest smart speaker. Always one to work smarter, not harder, I’ve got a few tips for how you can utilize your existing Nest smart speakers and Google Assistant to help sweep your partner off their feet.

1. Quickly Set Reminders

If I have an idea or think of something cool to do later, I’ll inevitably forget about it when I don’t do it immediately or write it down. Since none of us own this thing called paper anymore, the next best thing is to ask Google Assistant to remember it for you. “Hey Google, remind me to pick up a bouquet of roses at 1 pm.” You’ll get a notification on your Nest speaker and your smartphone at the specified time.

2. Order a Gift with Just Your Voice

Don’t have time to run to the store? Ask Google Assistant to order things for you from Google Shopping. As long as your payment method and shipping address are up to date, you can say, “Hey Google, order a box of chocolates from the Godiva store.” Then just wait for the package to arrive.

3. Ask Your Nest Speaker to Make a Reservation

To get the best table in town, reservations are a must on Valentine’s Day, and Google Assistant can help you secure one while you’re working on other preparations. You can say “Hey Google, book a table at [restaurant].” Google Assistant will ask you a couple more questions, like what time and what date, and then proceed to make an online reservation. If online booking isn’t available, Google Assistant will call the restaurant and request a reservation. <– you should try this out on any regular day just to see how cool it is in action!

4. Cook with the Best Recipes

If you want to impress with your cooking skills, you can ask your Nest smart display to find recipes for just about anything you can think of. Then, cook in real time by following the instructions in the video or, if available, a step-by-step guide. You can use your voice or wave your hand to pause or resume the recipe when you’re ready for the next step.

5. Creating an Ambience

When it’s time to dine or get cozy, ask your Nest speaker or smart display to dim the lights, or even change the colors if you have RGB smart bulbs. You can also use Google Assistant to program routines that control a number of smart devices together when you say a specific phrase like “Hey Google, let’s set the mood.”

6. The Right Music for the Moment

Too busy to craft a playlist? Don’t worry, just tell Google Assistant what you want to hear and it does a great job of curating songs or finding the right station. “Hey Google, play some romantic music.”

7. Lessen the Distance Between Each Other

For those who aren’t able to gather in the same physical space on Valentine’s Day, the Nest Hub Max is a nice way to connect through a video call using Google Duo. The camera has the ability to keep you in perfect view, allowing you to move around comfortably, and the high quality speakers sound much better than a regular phone call.

If the Google Assistant-powered lifestyle seems appealing to you, pick up a Nest smart speaker or smart display during the Google Store’s Valentine’s Day sale.
