75 Worship Songs to Praise and Glorify God at Church, Home and Everywhere in Between
Feel the Spirit through these powerful church songs.
From the early days of the Christian church all the way to our present day, worship music has certainly transformed over time. The most popular worship songs today are contemporary worship music, with strong influences of pop-culture music. Of course, it wasn’t always this way. In the earliest centuries, worship music was influenced by the Old Testament and as such, followed Jewish practices closely (mostly Psalms and hymns being sung).
The shift to contemporary worship music—what we're most familiar with today—began in the 1960s. In the United States, the climate at the time was warm with social and cultural disruption: the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, student protests, heavy use of drugs among youths, and the list continues.
Churches were losing people in significant numbers—and although the church initially had a bone-to-pick with the sinful tunes of rock 'n roll music, they began to use the beloved genre to their advantage. There started to be more of an emphasis on guitar-based worship.
Today, there are all sorts of sub-genres of worship music and its overall popularity has significantly grown since the '60s. With such a range of songs, styles, and voices, it's become a beloved genre. Here are 75 of the best worship songs to inspire you and help you praise the Lord.
