Goldie Hawn is here to remind you that working out doesn’t just keep you limber and looking great at 76, like it has for her—it’s also a crucial habit for maintaining good mental health. In a new Instagram video, the actress shared her favorite ways to get moving for what she called “MindUp Monday,” and fans loved the encouragement.

“Come with me!” she exclaims in the clip, heading to her personal mini trampoline. Hawn recommended bouncing on one for a few minutes, or if you don’t have one, simply jump up and down with your arms raised to activate the lymphatic system. “It works your heart too, it’s amazing!” she said.

Next, she did some arm curls with improvised weights: wine bottles. “If you don’t have weights, just get a couple bottles of wine ... it’s the same thing,” she laughed. Then, it was time for a neighborhood stroll. “Walking is the most important thing you can possibly do,” she said. (We’re inclined to agree!)

In ending her round-up, she planted herself on a yoga mat. “Sit down, cross your legs, take a deep breath, and thank yourself for taking time for you today,” she said. “Relax your body and have a great day.”

In captioning the post, Hawn stressed the importance of exercise for mental health. “Research shows that people who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional wellbeing. Physical exercise can help boost our mood, concentration, and also help us achieve a positive outlook on life,” she wrote. “The great news is that exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous or take a long time to make us feel good.”

And she’s not wrong. A 2021 report from the John W. Brick Mental Health Foundation reviewed over 1,000 studies from the last 30 years and found that 89% of them showed a statistically significant, positive association between physical activity or exercise and mental health.

“We all know the physical benefits of exercise but it can also profoundly impact our mental health in an amazing way ??♂?????,” Hawn concluded.

Fans thanked her for the reminder and extended kudos to the mom of three and grandmother of seven for keeping up the hard work. “Love this! As your body moves, your brain groves ??,” one person commented. “I love this and I love you ???? You are extraordinary ??,” another added. “Thank you for this. You have just motivated me to do this today!!” someone else wrote.

Hawn has been vocal about mental health ever since sudden fame at a young age impacted hers—which ultimately led to anxiety and panic attacks. In 2003, she founded MindUp, an organization that, through research and education, helps kids “manage stress, regulate emotions and face the challenges of the 21st century with optimism, resilience, and compassion,” per the official website, in hopes that they can better handle big transitions like the one Hawn had difficulty facing.

We can’t wait for some more Mind Up Mondays!
