Officer steps in when 76-year-old's Thanksgiving feast is stolen from her car
When a turkey and all the fixings were stolen from her car while she was shopping, a 76-year-old woman thought that maybe the thief needed the food more than she did.
Still, Tisina Wolfgramm Gerber, whose husband died in January, knew that her five children and grandchildren would soon be at her house expecting a grand feast.
Gerber was running errands Wednesday morning when someone broke into her car and took all the food items. Her only reaction was to pray for that person when she got home, but a neighbor eventually persuaded her to call the police.
South Salt Lake officer Chad Leetham was moved by Gerber’s plight and began making a few calls of his own. Not long after talking with him, Gerber heard a knock at her door.
“I hope I didn’t do anything wrong,” she said when she saw a police officer standing there.
It was Leetham, with an entire Thanksgiving meal, all donated to the cause.
Though Gerber believes her deceased husband helped in some way — “I know he was part of this, I know deep down in my heart” — she said she is eternally grateful to the officer who helped save the holiday for her and her family.
“I feel so loved,” she said of his generous action.
