This $77 Million Penthouse Hovers Above London’s Hyde Park
Since the early 1970s, London’s Hyde Park has hosted some of London’s most epic rock concerts by names like Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Queen. As one of the British capital’s eight royal parks, which also include Kensington Gardens and St. James’s Park, the 350-acre Hyde Park is flushed with greenery surrounded by some pretty peng properties. Among those is a sprawling penthouse that crowns the Park Modern, a luxury apartment house on Bayswater Road.
The nine-story Park Modern is a £530 million ($680 million) development that was designed by architect Lee Polisano of PLP Architecture. There are a total of 55 apartments and three penthouses, including the marquee penthouse unveiled by U.K. developer Fenton Whelan this week with an asking price of $76.5 million. Eight bedrooms with ensuite baths span its 6,800 square feet that spill onto a wraparound terrace with an open view over Hyde Park. At an impressive 2,400 square feet, the terrace is one of Central London’s largest private terraces, according to the developer.

Beyond the entrance is the great room, where the developer’s in-house design studio efforts come into focus. Here, floor-to-ceiling windows trail the residence alongside doors that provide access to the terrace and its breathtaking views. A marbled, U-shaped fireplace suspended from the arched ceiling anchors the space, separating the lounge area from a bar that features backlit shelving and bespoke joinery.
Opposite the living area stands the family kitchen. Breakfast bar seating is provided at the massive central island, next to double doors that open out to a terrace. A second, professional kitchen will prove useful for hosting large groups. The formal dining comfortably seats 20 people beneath a chandelier, and elsewhere, the TV room includes full-height glazing for unmatched views of Hyde Park and nearby sites like Kensington Palace and the Royal Albert Hall.

The primary suite, on the east side of the penthouse, where it takes advantage of morning light, includes an entrance vestibule and a bedroom bordered by a curved glass wall that opens onto the terrace. The suite also includes a stylish walk-in dressing room with curved wall and ceiling details for additional flair. A principal guest suite is found on the west side of the abode; it has its own private entrance and elevator lobby. Nearby is an extensive leisure suite that comprises an office, game room, and library.
Other luxe amenities residents of the Park Modern have access to include 24/7 concierge, a private cinema, sauna and steam rooms, an 82-foot swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, a spa, plus the treatment room and salon operated by Rhodium.
