8 Vintage Allan Barbie Dolls You Just *Have* To See on eBay Right Now
One standout in the Barbie movie—while there were many—is absolutely Michael Cera's Allan. Without giving away spoilers for Barbie, there are several Barbies in Barbieland, and many Kens. But there's only one Allan. While this name is not a super common Mattel Barbie doll we know today, Allan was introduced back in the 1960s and has been a fixture in Barbie and Ken's lives through the decades.
Cera's performance as Allan perfectly encapsulates a doll that is one of his kind, a bit quirky and (maybe) misunderstood. He's also just a fun male character among all of the various Kens. Who doesn't want a socially awkward, anxious friend?
Regardless of how much Cera stole the show as Allan, his doll is also very interesting. Allan's history is vast and he's been a popular collector's item since he was discontinued after the early 2000s. As you can imagine, that means prices were already high to own a classic or vintage Allan doll, let alone the 2000s version. But now after Barbie and Cera's memorable performance, you can see below just how much that impacted Allan dolls's prices.
So, if you're a collector or interested in owning a piece of history—or just want to commemorate one of the best parts of the movie—here are 8 Allan dolls you can buy on eBay right now (plus a few more from Etsy and Amazon). Again, these are collector items, so the prices are steep (but worth it if you're into that stuff).
Here at Parade.com, we're all about sharing products we love with our audience. When you make a purchase on an item seen on this page, we may earn a commission, however, all picks are independently chosen unless otherwise mentioned.

Who is Allan the Barbie doll, Ken's Buddy?
First off, let's really introduce you to Allan, Ken's buddy. As HuffPost reported, Allan was introduced in 1964. Barbie, of course, came first, in 1959 at the New York Toy Fair. Then, as History reported, Ken came in 1961. So Allan, and then Barbie's friend Midge (played by Emerald Fennell in Barbie), were introduced to round out Barbie's social circle and give kids more characters to play with.
Even though Allan and Midge were a couple when they debuted, Allan and Ken's friendship was a big point of Allan's character. In fact, a big selling point and slogan for Allan was that Ken's clothes fit him too (and were very fashionable, might we add). But, as HuffPost reported, that also led to a lot of people thinking these clothes-sharing friends were more than that (like the Bert and Ernie variety of "friends").
Allan then was rebranded as Midge's husband in the 90s to form a disconnect between him and Ken. In 2002, the "Happy Family" collection came out with pregnant Midge (a running joke in Barbie) and Allan (now Alan), and their two kids, Ryan and a baby. As CNN reported, parents weren't thrilled about buying their kids a pregnant Barbie doll, which then led to the second discontinuation of Allan.
With no new Allan dolls since 2014, Ken's buddy is a rare find. So, here are some online places to buy Allan nowadays.
