The $9 hair gel this R&B singer used to achieve her super-sleek iHeartRadio ponytail
Kehlani‘s 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards hairdo looked high-fashion, but the products she used to get her “super sleek” style can be found at your local drugstore for the low-low.
The 22-year-old nominee and performer walked the red carpet sporting a high ponytail with waves that cascaded down her August Getty Atelier coat dress. According to her hairstylist, OGX brand ambassador Kahh Spence, the contrast between Kehlani‘s smooth edges and textured pony was intentional and a collaborative decision.

He said: “iHeart is a fun night, so we wanted to go the opposite with the hair and make it feel modern and glamourous.” To play up this duality, which is totally aligned with Kehlani’s girly-meets-edgy persona, the hair pro used a combination of lightweight oils, flexible styling gels and waxes, and tress-strengthening hairsprays that all cost $9 each.
Spence prepped the R&B singer’s hair with a hydrating oil mist and OGX Protecting + Silky Blowout Thermal Primer Cream before blow-drying to a “glossy finish.” Next, he applied Extra Strength + Honey Hold Mega Glue Gel to seamlessly gather her locks at the crown of her head into a high ponytail before giving it a nice blast with Extra Strength + Honey Hold Mega Hair Spray. Then he added hair extensions to “give light waves and create more volume.” Spence finished the look with Flexible + Beeswax Texture Hairspray Wax, a must-have to keep this pony perfect from the red carpet to the stage.
