A Model Who Lost Her Leg to Toxic Shock Syndrome Walked the Runway in a Gold Prosthetic

Model Lauren Wasser’s career took a turn when in 2012 she lost part of her lower right leg due to complications from Toxic Shock Syndrome. But just a few years later, the 27-year-old is back on track. During New York Fashion Week, she made her runway debut for Chromat, strutting her stuff with a gold prosthetic on, wearing a black dress with neon lights.

But while Wasser’s inclusion in the show was prodigious (for the designer and model both). the entire presentation was a futuristic feat, breaking barriers many have yet to even consider. From plus size model Denise Bidot in a platinum blonde wig to Sabina Karlsson rocking her natural hair, the catwalk represented body and racial diversity.
