'Abbott Elementary' Creator and Star Quinta Brunson's Favorite Place Is Universal Studios Hollywood
The actress says she goes to the theme park at least once a month.
The Black Girl Magic continues at the 80th annual Golden Globes! Quinta Brunson, 33, just collected her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical TV Series. Her show, Abbott Elementary—which she created and stars in—is up for five awards tonight, almost unheard of for the first season of a network sitcom. Here are some fun facts you may not know about the Philadelphia native.

Quinta means “fifth” in Spanish, indicating that she is the youngest of five children.
She’s the first Black woman to be nominated three times in the same year in the Emmys’ comedy category, for writing, series (as executive producer) and lead actress.
Before her success in entertainment, Brunson’s least-favorite job was working retail at American Eagle, where she spent most of her time folding jeans.
Abbott Elementary was named after Brunson’s real-life former middle school teacher, Ms. Abbott.
Brunson first got attention for her Instagram series Girl Who’s Never Been on a Nice Date, which went viral.
Despite now working for Disney—which owns ABC, on which Abbott Elementary airs—she didn’t see the classic Snow White until she was 21.
On trips home to Philly, she always stops by a Wawa store to pick up a hoagie, sometimes using a gift card from her mother.
Brunson made Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2022 list.
In June 2021, Brunson released her debut book, She Memes Well, a collection of essays about her personal life and career.
Brunson’s favorite thing in the world to do is spend a day at Universal Studios Hollywood. “I pretty much go if not twice a month, then once a month.”
Brunson was already a big video game player before the COVID lockdown with Mario Kart, but during lockdown, she got addicted to Mario Party.
Brunson was a cast member on the first season of A Black Lady Sketch Show.
Brunson is a trained dancer, having studied all her life, and has taken up rock climbing since moving to Los Angeles.
