Abby Lee Miller opens up about her cancer struggles in new Dance Moms Resurrection trailer.
Abby, 52, was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a rare, aggressive type of cancer, in April 2018.
Dance Moms Resurrection premieres in June on Lifetime.
Abby Lee Miller has been though some pretty hard stuff in the last year. But now, she's ready to step back in front of the camera.
In the new trailer for Dance Moms Resurrection, Abby gets real about her struggle with cancer - and she doesn't hold back for her audience or her students.
The trailer opens with a shot of Abby being wheeled into the back of an ambulance on a stretcher. "In an instant, your life changes completely," she says. "I was ready to go back to work and start my life over and now I can't even walk."
That life-changing moment Abby's talking about is her diagnosis of Burkitt lymphoma, an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which is a rare type of cancer that affects the body's blood and immune system. Abby was diagnosed with the cancer in April 2018, after surgery for what doctors thought was a rare spinal infection.
After her diagnosis, Abby had two surgeries, chemotherapy, and had to learn to walk again. In the Dance Moms Resurrection trailer, Abby is seen talking about her chemotherapy and putting on a wig (Abby lost her hair due to chemotherapy treatment).
But you're wrong if you think Abby's hardships could take away her spunk. "I need to get back to teaching and I need to get back to screaming at children," she says in the trailer.
Abby's also shown rolling into her studio in a wheelchair to see her new students for the first time - and she has some choice words for them right out of the gate. "There’s people that counted me out, thought I was finished, considered the ALDC [Abby Lee Dance Company] dead," she tells them. "Well I fought hard to be here and you have to be a fighter too. You have to fight to get those legs straight, fight to get better feet, you have to fight to be a champion."
It sounds like Abby is back and more motivated than ever. Dance Moms Resurrection premieres in June on Lifetime - and I, for one, can't freaking wait.
