Academy Sports & Outdoors hosted a giveaway to local kids in Raleigh County
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Academy Sports & Outdoors in Beckley hosted a special event on the evening of September 12th for a group of lucky kids from Raleigh County.
Academy reached out to the YMCA of southern West Virginia to nominate 16 different kids.
These kids displayed the core values of the YMCA and the Academy wanted to award them for their hard work.
This turned into a $5,000 giveaway, with each kid getting $250 to spend on whatever they liked.

This included clothing items like shirts and jackets to even outdoor items, like skateboards.
Officials with the YMCA and Academy were very happy about the turnout of the event.
“I think it’s absolutely fantastic that a new business coming into town, or any business coming into our community, would reach out to us to honor these kids and for all the hard work and dedication that they’ve done all summer in our program.”

This giveaway also coincides with the grand opening of the new store in Beckley. The opening will take place on Friday, September 13th, and opening festivities will last through this Sunday, September 15th.
