If your time in the kitchen consists of imagining you're on a cooking show, I am right there with you. Cooking can be fun and when you have sleek gadgets as your mighty sous chefs, everything tastes even better. When I first feasted my eyes on Gozney's Dome, I knew we had to get it into the hands of Nicolas Neubeck, House Beautiful's Creative Director and resident pizza buff. Sure, a great slice of pizza is one slice away via UberEats (or defrosted in your toaster oven on the days you're too busy) but there's nothing more gratifying than enjoying a homecooked meal of everyone's favorite carb!
Now, the Dome isn't your basic outdoor pizza oven (trust me, we gave it a Live Better Award). Despite its sleek, modern profile, the Gozney is strong enough to make your favorite local wood-fired pizza restaurant miss hearing your go-to order. Neubeck is in awe of how user-friendly and thoughtfully designed the Dome is. And it works as well as it looks good: As Neubeck describes, it's basically a professional-grade oven that you can have in your very own backyard.
Read on to learn why this pizza lover has made the Dome a staple for entertaining and quality time with family.
The Design:
"I am a little bit of a design nerd and the look of the Dome is incredible from the packaging to the modern silhouette," Neubeck says. The oven is available in a lovely olive green color or warm ivory. Both are unobtrusive enough to blend into your outdoor space, but chic enough that you won't mid having them out.
Setting Up the Gozney Dome Pizza Oven
The packaging of the Dome rounds up to 150 pounds, while the oven alone weighs in at 128 pounds, with dimensions of 26" H x 24.8" D x 28.8" W. Unless you're a professional bodybuilder, Neubeck suggests promising your partner the first pie after lending a hand. Once you lift the pizza oven onto the stand or outdoor cooking counter, they are free to go! The process took about an hour and a half for Neubeck to complete.
"After building the stand, placing the oven on top was a little intimidating," he says. "It is so heavy. My wife and I used the attachments to lift it up but it is definitely something only The Rock can carry alone."
Scarred from skipping instructions for IKEA furniture, Neubeck advises reading the instructions thoroughly for a foolproof setup. Add batteries to the temperature probe, and you're ready to start prepping pies in the kitchen.
What's Included:
The Dome includes a stand (optional, as the oven is insulated enough to keep on a table), a digital thermometer, temperature probes, an outdoor cover, chopped wood, a double-layer stone floor, and a steam injector. There is also a slot to hold the wood and a knob to regulate airflow under the fire.
Is the Gozney Dome Worth It?
Retailing for $1,999, the Dome is on the pricey side. But for the experience, function, and high quality, it is a worthwhile investment you can use year-round. "I've hosted pizza parties with the oven. Everyone makes their own personal pie since we found that making smaller ones is not only fun but a timesaver," Neubeck says. The bonus? The fast cooking feature allows you and your guests to sit down together and enjoy the meal. So long to sweating over the oven while everyone digs in!
Neubeck explains, "I think we premade 20 pies (my pesto potato is a fan favorite) and within 20 minutes, it was time to sit down together at the table."
Whether you're showing off to friends or your in-laws, you immediately look ten times cooler using the Dome. The oven delivers impressive pizzas, but you don't have to stop there. Neubeck has cooked skirt steak and roasted veggies and looks forward to cooking fish in the cooler months.
Pros:
- User-friendly - Easy to clean - Sleek design - Hot temperature - Social aspect
Key Takeaways From Dome Experience:
Don't overload your pizza oven with multiple pies, larger pies, or unwieldy pies.
Store the wood separately so it doesn't get wet during cooler months.
Use outdoors only. Your home has to be ventilated properly for indoor use.
The oven is big so a small apartment or tiny patio isn't appropriate for set up.
"This is the easiest pizza oven you can use. Turn a knob and it fires right up within two minutes," says Neubeck. "The Dome can go up to 950 degrees Fahrenheit. I've tried making pizzas at home in my kitchen oven, but it can't deliver the taste I'm looking for."
You'll even get brownie points from your teenager for hosting pizza parties for their friends. Plus, it's a clever way to keep everyone safe and keep an eye on your family. And bottom line: Who can resist a hot slice of pizza? If you're suddenly itching to show off your cheese-pull skills, shop now for a showstopping pizza oven that makes your home the hotspot for entertaining!
