The ACM Awards Cause Fury Online — And It Has Nothing to Do With the Nominees

The 2022 Academy of Country Music Awards are making fans unleash their fury on social media — only this year, it has nothing to do with the nominees or performers (Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Kelly Clarkson are all set to take the stage). Instead, it’s due to a new change to the very broadcasting of the annual show. Rather than airing on ABC, NBC or CBS — which it has since its first televised event in 1972, this year, the country music awards show is moving to streaming. And let’s just say, longtime viewers aren’t pleased.

The Academy of Country Music has teamed up with Amazon Prime to broadcast the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards on Monday, March 7 with legendary Dolly Parton hosting. The only problem is, unlike years past when viewers could tune in to their local network for free to partake in the festivities and cheer on their favorite country music stars, this year, any hopeful watchers will have to have a Prime Video subscription to do so. And while $8.99/month for a subscription might not seem like a lot to many, for many others, it’s enough to prevent tuning in.

“You're breaking MILLIONS OF YOUR FANS HEARTS not having the ACM AWARDS on one of the regular television stations!!! Not everybody has Prime Video!!!!!! We have been loyal followers of yours for a long time,” one devastated fan commented on Facebook.

“But I think it stinks that [it’s] not televised, not fair... not everyone has access to Amazon prime video... nor can a lot of people afford it,” another fan wrote.

Upsetting as this change may be, the good news is that you can sign up for a free 30-day Amazon Prime Video trial. If, after tuning into the ACMs, you decide it’s not for you, simply cancel your membership and enjoy the trial until the end of its duration without fear of being charged monthly from there on out.
