Actress Sydney Morton Studied Suits Bloopers Before Playing Meghan Markle
As she prepared to play Meghan Markle in the upcoming Lifetime movie Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, actress Sydney Morton didn't skimp on her research. In addition to studying the Duchess's voice in interviews, Morton also scoured her performance in the USA drama Suits, to better understand who she was before she met Prince Harry.
"I had, like, 30 voice memos that I'd recorded from interviews and scenes of Meghan's from her show [Suits], and I would just listen to them on repeat," Morton told Entertainment Tonight. "I'm a musician, I'm a singer, so it was almost like learning a song to find where her voice sits and the cadence, the rhythm of it. So, a lot of repetition, a lot of listening."
The most helpful resource of all, though, proved to be the blooper reels from Suits, because they gave her a glimpse into a more candid side of Markle, who starred on the legal drama for seven seasons. She was famously close with her co-stars, several of whom attended her 2018 wedding to Harry.
"Even bloopers, because there's so little footage of Harry and Meghan being relaxed and not knowing there's attention on them," Morton explained. "I wanted to find moments where she's laughing or being herself or cracking a joke, so the blooper reels were really helpful."
Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace is Lifetime's third movie centered on the couple. It will detail the couple's decision to step back from the royal family and relocate to California, and will also recreate their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey from earlier this year. The film will premiere on September 6, 8PM EST.
